Finished up my D-Ring install this morning.

Pic of Toyota part and stock bed bolt removed. This bolt was a pita. I hit it with PB Blaster las night and let it soak overnight. It was a lot easier to remove. Sprayed it with silicon before reinserting.

    DSC_0001-3_6b5c2b5122075822a56023447818ef982624ea0f.jpg

A lot of posters recommend the Army surplus D-Rings for $5 over the stock set up for $34 and here is the reason why. The Toyota replacement will never work for the front D-Ring install as is. The bolt is too short.

    DSC_0003-3_ed1a9927c5f78d350fe6c3cebf2f979b4a9d0512.jpg

I was able to use the Toyota mounting plate once I drilled out the welded on nut.

You will need to grind down the washer on the removed bolt for a better fit. Vice grips are your friend here.

I have an old fashoned buffer with a grinder wheel attached.

The completed assembly ready to install.

    DSC_0006-1_7070515dc31c1dbc48d8781dc8d3acdf580ce69d.jpg

Don't forget to file off the rough and sharp edges.

    DSC_0007-1_5be33f3075e0e0cc087d744d2a3a9abc4c3ab07f.jpg

Instakked D-Ring in the bed of the Tacoma.

    DSC_0010-3_31ba03f78607e3ded1da2b95f024e908136b770d.jpg

I opted to just cut a hole in the bedlined.

    DSC_0011-2_edd5ef89f1e1fc18e0feb9231789bf9d9f566160.jpg

A very easy project that will mage your Tacoma a little nicer to haul gear.

Nice job. Looks good. Just Curious. Did the install go smoothly or was it a PITA ? How long did it take including getting tools together, beer and clean up ? Thanks. Curious George.

Really not that long, the only thing I had to get was a pop rivet gun, and a number 11 drill bit. Just follow directions (pictures) and measure twice before drilling. This is the first, NON bolt on Mod that I have done to this truck, so drilling holes in it was a little nerve racking, but it came out great, and works like a champ. Much better than that crappy Prop rod. Oh and probably only 30 min total.
