I got this 96 a couple of months back. The age worried me so I started taking care of suspension and maintenance items. Will be posting more as they come.

Yep, I'm going through replacing things as time and budget allows. Suspension is coming up. At some point...

I just did the motor/trans mounts. They didn't look too terrible but were starting to separate and I felt like 20 year old rubber probably needed to be replaced. I feel like they honestly could have gone longer before they really needed replacing...

Inspecting this bad boy. Rotate tires. Torque on. Cleaned up back of rims and front of rotors to rule out bad seating as a reason for some shimmy of the wheel under braking. Seeing some crack bushings and some weeping. Front right steering rack boot leaking. No major play anywhere I could assess by hand. Every suspension part basically appears original. 140k on it. 2007.

    Edit: test drive results
    No improvement.
Going to double check right side tie-rod. Maybe bleed brakes
Edit: tie rods feel fine. bleeding fronts didnt help. Rotors and pads look good and symptom is not all the time. Gotta be the bushings. Fun

Splurged on Ebay today. 16x8+30 offset Skyline GT-R wheels. Forged and only weigh 16lbs. Wont be able to mount them up until I replace the shocks and the lower and upper control arms though.

You’re gonna love them! I got a set 2 years ago and they’re killer. 235/75/15. I use them all year long and they can handle inches of snow easily

What does it take to replace these motor mounts in your own garage?

engine lift or jack up engine from bottom?

I put a board I had laying around (like 1" thick and maybe 6" x 8") on the jack pad and jacked it up from the bottom. Overall, it was much easier than I was expecting!

Not sure if 2nd gen will have same issues as 1st gen but I had to undo my air box and remove the fan shroud to be able to jack the motor up high enough to get the mounts out.

Cool. I find that motor mounts go neglected as a wear items on many cars. Some actually have frequent issues. These look very std though. But! as you can see on yours, gravity, weight and heat has defeated them. Same with transmission mounts.
