Happen to know the difference in weight between the steely and alloy wheels?

Did the air pump filter mod as a preventative measure over the weekend. Ignore the dirty engine.

    PXL_20240411_173818783.jpg

And added front and rear dash cam setup. So far the only use is I see that I speed a lot.

IMG_4226.jpg I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for this page.

Let’s start off with, I have been looking for a truck for my sons 16th birthday and didn’t want to give him a full-size truck.

Found this 2008 Tacoma, org. 68k (old man owned it). $10k out the door. A straight up STEAL of a deal.

Well, long story, but I should have done my research before hand because I didn’t know the 5 lug and 6 lug tacomas were completely different.

I was pretty much building this thing for him and ran into quite the issues.

I Purchased the first lift kit not knowing the suspension difference from Rough Country and Had to return it. Went and bought the Readylift with the AAL.

Fog lights, rock lights and new led headlights were a huge upgrade. MAIN issue was the wheel size, couldn’t find a wheel I liked that would fit my taste and would look good was my issue. Finally, I decided to go the wheel adapter route and purchase a 1.125” adapter converting the lugs to a 5x5.5 instead of the 5x114.3

Went with a Fittipaldi Wheel 20x9 with a 275/60r20. Some minor cutting from the local wheel shop. Minor scrubbing, nothing major.

truck turned out pretty damn sweet. Gave it to the kid and he loves it.

Once you get pass the limited suspension, they are great trucks. I love the size and handling. They drive like cars.

Switched my 20s out of the garage and on to the truck with some new rubber to boot. Definitely time to buy that DJM 3/3 drop and install it. And for anyone interested in specs the wheels are 20x8.5 +48 and tires are 255/35R20s.

I tried a bunch of products but ended up painting mine with plasti dip. It's crazy how fast alot of the back to black stuff washes off.

I did the CeraKote wipes on my wife's Rav4, worked great.

All of those black plastic restoring products look great upon application, but seem completely worn off after a wash or two. I went the route of removing and spraypainting all of my exterior black trim.

Has anyone successfully added a rear locker or something similar to their 5 lug? I saw a video of someone adding a “3rd member” but didn’t quite understand that can anyone explain that? I’m not very technically inclined when it comes to cars.

None elocker diff stuff is the same for 5 lugs with an auto, So like arb, Detroit lockers and a bunch of others. I was an idiot and swapped my whole rear end for a trd elocker rear end but I will say having a rear 6 lug and front 5 lug got old quick.

Rear end is the entire rear axle assembly from hub to hub. 3rd member is the differential only and doesn’t include the axles or hubs. It can be swapped out minus a core charge if you send them yours or with the charge if you keep both. Swapping allows for changing either or both the type of 3rd member(locking, limited slip) and the gear ratio allowing for larger tire/wheel combinations and matching final drive ratio to your specific needs. Because of the smaller stock tire size 5-lugs have different ratios for the auto and manual transmissions than their 6-lug counterparts and 4wd versions are different again.

Bit of a change up on the front end since I got my grill back from the body shop yesterday.

Thanks for explaining! So if I wanted to add let’s say an Air Locker or a rear locker in general like what 5 lug fury mentioned, would I need to swap out my 3rd member as well? My 5 lug has Auto LSD would I lose this function if I were to add a locker and swap the 3rd member? Sorry for the questions

It all depends on how you do it and how much you want to pay for it lol. The air locker is something that goes inside the 3rd member. Alot of places can build and mail you a 3rd you'd swap in or you would pull your 3rd and take it to the place. As far as the "auto lsd" that's just your traction control and is done through your brakes. Don't worry about the questions, we've all been there lol

Also keep in mind you would need an air compressor for that airlocker as well.

so the traction control through brakes is not affected, thank you! Ig that’s different type of limited slip than the one bagleboy mentioned? Aside from an air locker that needs an air compressor, what’s another option for a rear locker? I don’t plan on doing this anytime soon but I figured it’s good to know in advance and plan accordingly. I don’t plan to spend too much on such a mod but it all depends on value to price ratio I guess. Thanks ya’ll, gotta love this forum

It all kinda depends on what you want the locker for. Some will reduce on road quality and some will be less effective offroad. I like the Detroit trutracs for alot of general applications. Now it is a lsd technically but it does "lock" up alot more than normal lsds.

Thanks Fury! Really answered all my questions. After looking it up a bit I think the truetrac fits my use case more.
