What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Installed and wired up my Rigid Dually lights, and placed decal on back window.

 

Added some locks to my bed cargo boxes!

 

That's sweet, do those barrel locks replace oem latches easily?

 

Yes, but you might consider mounting your lock in the center, leaving the original latches as-is. This allows you to lock the compartment or not, so if you're out wheeling, you won't have to fumble with keys to access the compartment (for tug strap or what have you). One lock per compartment saves $$$ as well. Same "difficulty" (none, really - 45 minutes with a dremel and some files did both sides) as installing in the factory locations (as long as you know how to use a ruler).

 

Define 'easily'. There is a write-up on it somewhere, it requires a small amount of trimming and adjusting to get the lock to work and I reset the pins so they only use one key.

Had the stearing shaft replaced, glad my son works at toyota, part was like $400, but got it for $250, not quite an hour to put it in thanks to my mechanic, your the best buddy!!

 

It was very easy! Took 30 min maybe. I used plain cabinet locks.

This was even a little in depth... Just have to ream the holes out a bit and bend your latch bars so they catch!

Was thinking about doing that but thought with one lock they could just pull the door and break the latch. I never wheel so that doesn't bother me.

 

FYI...i found the lock mod to be pretty stupid...its more of a hassle to have to use a key everytime you wanna get a rachet strap out or whatever else.

Then the cabinet locks got all messed up from the weather/getting wet and i had to break the plastic door to get it off. (bought a new one). It might be due to where im living but either way...it was the very first 'mod' i did and wish i had not done it

Did you keep them oiled or anything. That was something I was concerned about. I don't mind using a key to open them as I don't use them all that much. But it does scare me a little you had issues withy the locks from the weather...

 

no i didn't keep them oiled or anything, maybe that's my bad but either way the one lock i was able to break enough that it turned the whole assembly and the other one im guessing was rusted or something so i just broke the door to get it out knowing i was gonna get a new one either way

 

i was lookin into is cause im tired of the damn things loosening up and stuff flyin out lol
