What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Took new photos of my Super White with RCI Skidplates today. This truck grows on me more and more every day. Although there's so much I wish I could afford to do to it still. Ha-ha!

 

I'm not to sure who makes it. I got it in a cargo bed light kit for a 2015 F150. I tried sourcing each individual parts, but I couldn't find any. So I ended up getting the full kit on eBay. Plus it wasn't cheap, pricey just to have it on a Tacoma. Yes it is weatherproof. Had to cut different shape holes just to have the 2 LED pod and that switch sit flush on the side of the bed.

Awesome. I just installed the IFS, Transmission, Transfer Case, and rear Diff Skid from RCI this week.
I received a pair of RCI sliders, with the kick out. but the pair was a pair of Driver's sides.

I should have the Passenger side by the time I get back from my trip, which works. RCI really did a good job of making it right.

 

I think I saw your post elsewhere about the two driver side sliders. Oops!

I ordered the fuel tank skid as well. Got it powder coated. Discovered.... it doesn't work with Long Bed Tacomas. Yeah... so that sucks. I talked to Josh over the phone the other day. He walked me through a couple things.

Apparently long beds don't use the same fuel tank. And... tend not to come with the same fuel tank straps on them either! The DCSB and AC models have fuel tank straps with threaded bolts on them... simply screw nuts onto them to hold the fuel tank skid in place. The long bed doesn't have those.

Otherwise I've got all the skids they make for the Tacoma. No sliders though!

 

TRD OffRoads have the threaded bits. The TRD Sport does not.
I'm still looking to pick up a Trail Toy's fuel tank skid. I got to see the aftermath of one being hit with a broken drive shaft this weekend, and it held up great.

 

Yeah apparently the SR5 long bed doesn't have them either! Josh seemed to think I could order them. No idea how I'd go about installing them though... have to do it when your fuel tank is empty perhaps? LOL Can't imagine holding the fuel tank in place while someone runs the straps over it.

 

jacks/jack stands, or boxes to support it. Then do one strap at a time I suspect.

 

Yeah, that's basically how I solo'd the front skid plate on my truck. LOL Was actually the easiest one to install.

 

I used a 2x6 on top of the jack and did one strap at a time. 5 to 10 minutes tops once I realized that they are 2 different lengths, front to rear. Took the front one off and got pissed for a minute when the new strap was a different length. I was comparing it to the rear strap.

 

Where'd you get the straps from? And what do the straps actually cling to above the tank?

 

Put 89 octane gasoline in her today.

Been a hell of a summer here in CA and it's still 105+ degrees most days, I've been noticing some engine "rattling" noise with the drive mode in Drive with my foot on the break, after the engine has been run and is at full operating temperature on hot days. A quick diagnosis, I perceive it to be fuel knock since it is more prevalent on hot days with the engine under load. The 89 seem to help, and it really seems like my 1GR likes it. The powerband feels more linear and quieter believe it or not.

 

I got the straps from Amazon. I don't know how to post a link. One side has a bolt and the other is connected by a hook. When you check out the straps its self explanatory. Without a skid plate the plastic tank looks very vulnerable.

There's a TSB and a free fix for this. Dealer flashes the ECM, just had it done last week on my '13. Knock became noticeable and consistent in the Texas heat, its now gone
