First time posting in this thread. Not sure this qualifies as something I made. More like something I unmade at this point in the project. This kayak is was built by my Mom and Dad in the in 1980's. It is a skin on frame design created by the Folbot company and is based on their folding kayak design. This one obviously doesn't fold.

My folks bought a plastic kayak about 10 years ago and asked me if I wanted it and I said sure. It was leaking pretty badly when I got it and needed to be recovered. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't find the time to repair it, so I threw a tarp over it and let it sit outside. It was ignored for too long and it's picked up some rot.

I pulled all the skin off to inspect it. I found at least 2 bulkheads will have to be replaced and some of the stringers are weak as well. It's really not too bad considering how long its been outside.

I plan to cover it 3mm Okoume plywood and then coat that with fiberglass. That should make it much stronger and durable. I'm afraid it will be heavy beast but it will be fun to get it back out on the water.

    Thanks!

lol honestly, I bought a blank. I don’t have a cnc and don’t have the patience to use a jig saw.

Still have to get a bandsaw so I might do something like that in the future.

I used to just have the state stained brown with different numbers. It looked too small on the side of the house though.

jigsaw and band saw might be tough. Scroll saw can do small cuts but it takes patience...which I did not have(reason i got rid of scroll saw) LOL! You going to clear coat it or let it weather?

lol yeah, that’s why I’ll probably never have a scroll saw. The montana isn’t mounted yet, so going to lacquer the brown base. Just enough to keep it reasonable protected.

Any weathered stuff, I usually make out of the fence pickets I kept off the old fence.

Yes.. that's how I made the 90 degree one... but you can't make a 45 degree one in the 45 degree one.. they have to be two separate pieces. and if you wanted to add a 30 degree one or anything else those also would have to be separate ones.

That’s what all mine are. I have several types. Easy to find (HD), reasonably priced and work well. Keep the pitch off and they last awhile.
