3D printed a vacuum shroud for my Kreg jig. I was printing in draft mode with no supports, which made the outlet tube a little off. No biggie, it will be encased in a hose adapter anyway. I'll have to post a pic of the final setup. I'm cheap, and the Kreg shroud is $10.

Also made a sawdust shroud for a new miter saw part. I have lots of leftover leather from making watchbands, so I fabbed one for this project. I'll post a pic once I get it installed. Hoping to keep my DeWalt 715 from tossing sawdust all over the shop.

Finally got the miter saw mod done. I put a video up on the results. Now time for beer and football. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

you could probably find a mosaic artist in your area. Depends on if you want like a scene or just some artistically placed tile, etc. They're hard to find though; I don't like most mosaic artist's work, mostly because it's really hard to not make a mosaic tacky, and a lot of mosaic artists are older women, so they like kitschy kind of stuff. Idk, I'm picky about my mosaics. You could probably find artists elsewhere in the country; you can attatch tesserae to fiberglass mesh in sections, that way it can be shipped, then pressed into thinset like a normal backslash, then grouted. But they'd have to make sure all of the pieces are uniform.
The main reason I'm not doing a custom one for my kitchen is I'm not planning on being here forever, so I don't want to personalize too much when it comes to the permanent stuff. Cool thing about making the mosaic from scratch is the outlets and other dimensions can be accounted for prior to designing, rather than coming home with some pre-made tile and having to chop it up to fit around everything. Really not looking forward to that when we replace our subway tile.

Try and plan a vacation to San Antonio sometime. Seems a Spanish influence craved mosaics. Look into the Majestic theater as well. The architects house was just as impressive. Lots of mosaic work. I was part of remodel a lifetime ago.

Just went in September 2018 to see NIN at River City Rockfest. Don't travel much with how sick I am, but I'd love to go back; we only stayed 2 days, but it was amazing! We saw the river walk and ate at a little hole in the wall mexican bar, that was about all we had time to do haha. I'm looking at photos of the theater though... it's absolutely stunning! I don't think I've really seen many mosaics in person before. I really want to see the mosaics in the Minneapolis-St.Paul airport; they have a ton of them in there, including one by an artist I really admire. One of the few large airports in the country I never ended up in as a kid.

That's exciting! Being in a new area with no one I know I'm having a hard time connecting with people. I get a lot of inquiries through my Instagram but nothing ever comes to fruition. I'm working on laying out a portfolio website with pen and paper right now, I'm worried about the expenses and keeping track of taxes and the like though. Etsy does all of that for you, but Etsy doesn't really tickle my peach... very few leads. A portfolio website is much more professional anyways, haha. I also work in so many mediums that it's hard to market them all without segmenting them out, which gets complicated fast. But from a marketing standpoint, my Instagram is a mess, and my diverse body of work really hinders my ability to build a good audience.
Makes it difficult. I want to keep my art varied so I don't get burnt out with commissions of the same type. But when people follow someone, they want to see consistency. I really wish I could just have a normal job so I could just draw people shit for fun sometimes, lol.

    Kansas City, MO.

My gas sipper and I would be willing to drive around to places a few hours away for something lucrative as well. I'd be open to Wisco too; I have family I can stay with up there that's really centralized; so any large cities there are within a reasonable drive from their places. Installations I've done so far have all been made at home and assembled on location so far; anything like that if I was getting compensated well I'd probably drive just about anywhere for, haha.

yesterday while we was out an about my wife found a 3 station "crock pot" buffet. Only one little problem, it was missing the knobs.

asked her if she wanted it, with a bit of a smirk. and she said she would but it was missing the knobs. I reminded her about the 3D printer that was recently acquired, and proceeded to the checkout where we got some more knocked off the price for the missing parts.

Once back at the house I modeled a knob in Inventor and did a test print to confirm that it fit. discovered a couple small errors that was quickly corrected and reprinted a test print. much better the second time, and the a little tweak allowed the indicator to have a better alignment with the text.

    crockpot knob 2.jpg

    crockpot knob.jpg

at almost 95% once of the 3 knobs ended up getting knocked off the build plate, and attempts to reprint a single knob resulted in failure after failure. I did however get a piece that let me end up with me being able to fix the first failed part.

a bit of sanding, and some antique white paint to make the indicator dot show up...

    bella.jpg

not perfect, but it works, and later on I may do some better finish work on the knobs after I reprint the one
