My buddy at powdercoat had us make this prototype out of wood a couple years ago as a test. He wanted to see if it worked then he was going to have us make two out of steel. They’ve added to it and fixed and repaired it. He brought it to me today at lunch and ask for 2 by Monday afternoon. Check. He said they’ve ran approximately 3 million parts through this one. They put 5 parts in it and wrap them. I need about an hour in the lathe and I’ll be done with them.

They paint landscape stakes then use this to wrap them in bundles of 5.

Not exactly Made or Created but....

Several years ago I sort of inherited this old Coleman camp stove when a senior relative was being moved out of her house and into a nursing home. It has been sitting in my garage and gathering dust all this time and since I am running out of things to do because of this quarantine thing I decided to pull it out and see what I could do with it.

The best I can tell, Coleman made this model, Model 425B, from 1949 to about 1961. A few leftovers were still on store shelves in 1962. Earlier models had a copper-colored tank and the later ones' tanks were painted red so I suspect this stove dates from the late 1950s.

I should have taken a "before" picture but I didn't. It seems that a family of mud dauber wasps had taken up residence in it at one time so I had to clean all of that out. Then I removed the burner assembly, cleaned out the interior real good and put it all back together. The original paint is 99% intact with just trace amounts of rust.

Then I removed the pump plunger and to my surprise the leather piston was still oily and is good condition. So I filled it up with some Coleman fuel (basically pure gasoline with no additives), pumped the tank, and lit it up. The burner fired after about 3 seconds and though you can't see it very well in the picture, it settled into a nice hot blue flame. I may go ahead and replace the tube that connects the fuel tank to the burners, (it's called a "generator" but I don't know why) because these tend to get corroded after a while.

Never underestimate good old 'Murican technology!

Nice, Tim. My dad gave me the same one a few years ago, but I’ve never used it or even opened it up. I ended up buying a newer used one that uses those small propane tanks for taking my boys camping, but I’ve never even used that one! :D We’ve always had other ways to cook so I’ve never needed mine, but I may need to mimic your methods here.

The propane ones are nice and are definitely convenient, but a gallon of Coleman fuel contains more energy per unit-volume than propane and leaves less of a carbon footprint because you end up throwing away more propane cylinders by the time you'd throw away one empty gallon can of white gas. Cost of white gas is cheaper too when you compare the number of BTUs you get from white gas vs. propane.

I guess it is all a matter of personal choice.
