I want to get a plasma table myself, but the initial costs are a lot for me.

You can diy, which brings the cost down a bit.

Maybe someone here with their metal knowledge could help. Looking for something relatively light >75 pounds maybe, but able to withstand around 400 or maybe more.
Looking to build a folding tent platform with some legs than can close in. Toss in bed of truck. Just for when I go out knowing it’s going to be shitty. I’m not a RTT guy, too pricey for what it is IMo.

do you already have a plasma cutter?

it’s high, but I got in on batch 1 preorders, since it came with THC and IHS for what I paid I couldn’t complain. Given I paid for it maybe back in September and didn’t receive it till March.

I’ve just been slow getting everything going and spending more time on the house work.

Easiest would be 80/20 aluminum extrusions, but it isn't light. You could do aluminum square tubing and bolt together if you don't have welding capabilities. Simplest for the legs would be bolted as well, have a stop at an angle so it won't fold when in use.

Kinda hard to explain, I could do a quick sketch of you'd like. Also check out McMaster Carr for different hardware options.

yea no welder unfortunately. Would have to be bolt right now. So it would be basically the outer diameter in this tubing?

What about some sort of honeycomb ?

Edit what in the wizardry is this McMaster site, I’ve never seen something so damn cool.

Probably 1x1x3/16 would be plenty with a few vertical supports placed around the perimeter and maybe 4 spaced on the center.

Steel will be cheaper, but heavier.

McMaster is an awesome place. I love that they not only have dimensioned drawings for each part, and You can directly import them into solidworks, fusion ect.

I was trying to navigate, and find something with a hinge spring? And a leg to kind fold down flat against the floor.

all those programs are foreign to me, yet would probably help me create this in the end run. Some guy makes and sells these hitch ones for a RTT. But I just basically want the base, chop it in half’s to fold and toss in the bed. It’s gotta be possible.

They have some hinges in the hardware section. They don't have everything, but it's a good jumping off point for searches.

Just need pen and paper, I have like 5 cad and cam programs, unless I'm using a cnc pen and paper. The drawings are nice for planning and scale. Sounds easy enough, two square frames with a cross brace in the center. hinges, McMaster will have weight ratings. And a few legs.

And some corner brackets. For tools all you need is a drill and wrenches. A saw as well, chop saws with non ferrous blades work great.

sweet, I’ll have to draw/plan something up. Are there any local stores that sell metals (generic ones) I could use? Maybe get an idea? I’m sure Home Depot has just steel plates or alum that’s made for like backdrops one kitchens or something with no relative weight capability.

Search for metal supply in your area. HD will be way expensive.

Check out Ryerson steel, they may have a location near you. They have decent pricing and they deliver for a few bucks

Just wanted to add that McCaster is awesome! I sourced all my hardware, to include threaded shaft, for my leg vise. WAY cheaper then buying a kit. If you haven't looked through the site yet, its worth your time to check it out.

Build it and they will come. (Especially if you put food on it.)
