I was working with a piece of brittle epoxy that is a bit on the difficult side to turn and half of it proved the fact so for the lower I grabbed some antler.

    A sycamore pen.

    IMG_20200519_203259.jpg

Another anniversary pen that I wasn't pleased with the fit and finish so new parts on order and this one will go in my stock pen supply.

And my current favorite pen. I turned this one for my youngest son's graduation from the University of Texas, Cockrell School of Engineering with his BSME.

I took a piece of spalted Pecan and turned a seam ripper for my Mom. The pecan was an old tree beside my grandparents house. She and her sisters played under it as kids and then me and the rest of the grandkids played under it when we were younger. My grandfather would set some of his harvested watermelons under the tree for us grandkids to have when we came over. I know the tree was at least 70 years old and no telling how many pecan pies were made from the fruit. It was also under that tree when several of the grandsons received a shooting lesson we would never forget. We were trying to shoot some of the pecans to knock them out of the tree when our grandmother came out and caught us shooting her pecans. She went on to read us the riot act about putting BB's into the meat of the pecan. We were told we were not allowed to shoot any more if we couldn't do like her and hit the stem and break it off the limb. Well being the oldest I had to stand up for the 5 or 6 of us and said something along the lines of "you can't do that." She jerked my Red Rider out of my hands, spun around and quick fired, hitting the stem and breaking the pecan off from the tree. She handed me my Red Rider and told all of us that she had better not find another BB in one of er pecans. Needless to say, we were determined not to be out shot by our grandmother again. My mom and her sisters laughed when we told them what happened and my mom's younger sister told us our grandmother was known as "Dead Eye," one of the best, if not the best squirrel hunter in the area. Every squirrel she killed was shot through the head and most of them was through the eye.
