I don't miss much about my last car (2018 Jeep Renegade) but it would let me set the radio to stay on for up to 30 minutes after I turned off the motor. And it wouldn't switch off when I re-started it.

Very handy when you're listening to a live radio show and you need to run into the store for a few minutes.

So I'd like to know if this can be turned off, too.

New technology has its place, but too many people rely on it and assume it is better than people. Ford even announced a car you can take a nap in while it drives. Phoenix local has at least 3 companies now with self-driving taxi firms ... but even those are on local streets and have had growing pains.

The driving aids can be nice but I constantly remind myself to be smarter than the truck.

Auto-high-beam is cute but not a miracle. SXM is privacy-invading and if I need radio while not in town I have portable music devices to feed the system. Radar cruise is nice to let me be a little lazy but the imperceptible slowing does get annoying ... pick your poison. And my Tacoma does NOT report back to Toyota-central, but the SOS might be useful when I am outside of cell-phone range, which in AZ is far more common than you might think.

As to "installed NAV": if my GPS is either installed on the vehicle or relies on a cell signal I could be in trouble. I like my portable Garmin GPS both because it is portable AND because of the way it presents information (bottom of screen is current street, top of screen in name of next expected street, and the image just looks less "sanitized". As to "enter coordinates while I SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON ROAD" ... pull over or let the non-driver micro-focus on GPS if you MUST change destination.

I must admit the "top view camera" has come in handy adjusting from a 14.5 ft Corolla to this 17.5 ft Tacoma.

What? How? SXM can only receive signals it sends nothing back. Not sure what you mean.

I turned off the 3rd brake light cargo light. For some reason it got annoying when I would unlock it with my key fob and it would come on.

Never wanted them in my life, never before this purchase did I contact them. Now I had to cancel the trial, tell them to stop contacting me forever. But the agent said that the "do not contact" order is only goos for 3 years then they will try to recruit me again.

That isn't privacy invasion, that is marketing 101. You made it sound like they are tracking your moves and listening hablits.

Block the phone number, block the email. I get one call per day from random telemarketers. Its life in the digital/smart phone world.

You want to be paranoid. Look at your cell phone. That is privacy invasion. Typically an issue until you do something bad.

Lane departure alert…up here, the snow plows don’t always follow the lanes on the first pass of clearing a highway, so you get annoying beeps when staying in your plowed lane. Much worse in my wife’s company Crosstek…it tries to “correct” the steering to match the white lines, not the plowed lane….disabled that tout suite.

Well, I have had my truck now for 6 months and after turning damn near everything off I have turned a few things back on. I’m starting to like BSM, that has actually helped me avoid a fender bender, my family and friends hounded me into turning back on the PSC so I did. LDA stays off, too many windy roads around me and too many pot holes to avoid so it would never stop beeping. I tried the radar cruise again on a long trip and it was annoying it made me feel like a student driver. Parking Assist stays off, auto high beam stays off. SXM stopped calling me, which is good. Tonneau cover stays off, got tied of taking off and then back on to haul something, plus the damn thing weighs almost 90 lbs.

    D-ring tie-downs.
The cruise control works ok but there's too much traffic around here on the 4 laners. The LSD is handy in the winter. I like it better than a mechanical limited-slip cause it doesn't kick the ass-end out too bad. I don't use the induction charger. The warning buzzers/chimes are a heck of sight better than musical ones in other mfgs. Wish I had bed lights. LDA is kind of a gimmick IMO.

Why worry about all these privacy issues. If you have a smart phone your being tracked, Amazon knows your spending habits, the government knows what party you vote for, IRS knows how much money you got and which bank you use. Hell the government can pull an empty can of corn out of your trash and scan the code and find the store you bought it from, the register you were at and the time you bought the can of corn and bring you up on video paying the cashier.

I just put Apple Air Tags in both my vehicles, they don’t ping off cell towers, they ping off every I phone in the area. My neighbor had his truck stolen and he showed the police exactly where it was on his phone with the air tag app.

I don’t have my Tacoma yet but can offer some insight from my Subaru:

LDA wife said “now I know what I’ve been saying for years , you don’t stay on your lane”. I keep it activated

bsm. The little radar Circles on the back bumper get covered in road salt / dirt and it shuts system down. Maybe try wiping them clean to reactivate. I keep that activated too

For me, I don't like any corporation tracking my exact location everywhere. This is in no way specific to Toyota. I imagine Toyota is orders of magnitude more careful than most other corps with regard to location data.

I don't think Toyota does this, but I don't want location information about me to be sold (even "anonymized") or shared with any third party for any reason. There is no such thing as anonymous location data. You can take my name off it but there's a pretty good chance the GPS track that leaves 123 Home Street at 9am M-F and drives to 456 Work Street is me. It has been demonstrated many times that it's possible to track specific individuals by buying "anonymous" data from data aggregators.

You can turn location off on your smartphone when it's not required, and/or deny most all apps the privilege of location access. You'll also want to contact your cell provider and obtain instructions for how to opt-out of any data sharing of your information. (They can still triangulate your position, albeit with much less accuracy.) For apps that you trust that need your location, maximize their privacy settings and disable permanent storage of the information.

Always throw your corn cans in your neighbors trash. Do not let the government track your corn. No one believes me, but there's a huge government cornspiracy. :D

Just in the news today there was a man in San Antonio that had is truck stolen, he tracked it with an Apple Air Tag and found his truck. Shot the bastard that stole it. By the way, the can of corn thrown in your neighbors trash will still be tracked back to you. Big Brother is watching and the Mothership is watching.

I'm kidding about the cornspiracy. But for the record, there's no serialization on these kinds of products, only lot numbers, and stores are only scanning UPCs.

Retail stores don't give a toss. They certainly track that you bought corn. They can't track which corn is yours.

I'm 100% unconcerned about being tracked by the government. The problem is corporations and their "marketing partners" and data aggregators/brokers.

I stand corrected, I didn’t know that stores can’t track what was purchased to an individual. But I did see where was recent murder case was solved by tracing what a man bought at a hardware store ie tarps, bleach, limb saw etc. and had him on video buying the items. As far as the government tracking me, I say go ahead. I lead a dull life and I’m not hacking up bodies and burying them in the woods. And I agree with you about the corporations tracking me via the internet, I-phone, credit card purchases, etc.

Also, folks need to realize wearing the aluminum foil hat is a myth, it doesn’t work, the mothership can still track you, lol
