Hello, I have a 1999 Tacoma which came with some knockoff HID's the last guy put in. One of the pivot ball joints on one is broken and the lenses are always dirty (yes I've tried cleaning them) and I just bought new bulbs and one lasted only a day. So I figure its time for new housing and assemblys. I was going to go back to stock halogen but they are $300 per side. I've been reading and apparently LEDs and HIDs are worse to see in the rain anyway. I live on Vancouver Island with plenty of rain. Any recommendations on what are an affordable solution to replace these?

The problem with LEDs and HIDs is that no one researched the proper bulb for their application and so often they get a shit ton of glare that looks brighter, but isn't in reality...at least at a distance. I have some LEDs in my 3rd gen that I like a lot, especially in the rain compared to my stock halogens.

But reasons like I listed above are why LEDs and HIDs are banned in halogen housings per NHTSA. (I'm not sure what Canada says). If you want HID or LED, you should find some HID or LED specific housings to get the best performance.

I’d just go OEM stock. Look around. Maybe you could find a pair at a junk yard or find a less expensive pair searching the net.
