we would all get fucked over and still have to pay 5 dollars a gallon for oil there would be some excuse for it.

also we would probably just use more/go through it faster.

Maybe the grand plan is to become completely oil independent then spike the price on everyone else who isnt moving away from it?

Currently sitting on a drilling rig, watching numbers tick by on a computer screen, waiting for some rocks and oil to look at. Tis the life of a geologist in the oil patch.

Also I've decided that I will not respond to any of the comments in this thread that I deem idiotic, so I can keep my sanity

I work for a oil refinery. Supply is not the issue.. We can run the garbage sour crude that is way less than $106 a barrel and that's 90% of what we are running now. Also you would you would be supprised how much of it is domestic. Also to chime in about the oil sands it's much cheeper to process than sour crude. So untill the industry can make it cost effective to process dont expect a major break a the pump

Damm I phone and no proof reading! Should read sour crude is much cheeper to process than oil sands

Ethanol, solar, and wind power exist, but are not profitable.

But that's because they have massive government subsidies powering them. :D

Not false, it IS profitable, but A LOT goes into it, cuting out the profits. My company alone made 23 million dollars today

This man is now right! With time it will become more profitable, but right now it's not the case. I've had to sit through quite a few seminars where this has been discussed. Trust me the bean counters know how to keep the share holders happy.. I am sure the oil sands will be profitable but right now it's not cost effective.

The oilsands are extremely profitable, just not AS profitable as straight pumping oil from the ground. Also the northern conditions we have to contend with create a much larger maintenance and upkeep bill, over and above regular industrial upkeep. Shipping is also another large expensive issue.
