Which I should mention, Open Pit mining is a thing of the past, everything now is going to S.A.G.D. Tech which is grossly more efficient. Also the hippies love it and approve every damn S.A.G.D. project they see just because of that.

I'm sure it is cost effective to a point. It clearly makes money or else they wouldn't do it at this point, since uncle Sam isn't helping them like they do to alternative energy industries. But at this point, conventional oil economics make more sense, so more of that is processed. It's also a lot worse for the environment, as its basically strip mining, so that takes away from its attractiveness, relatively speaking.

Can you explain that further? Is it steam-flooding?

I am sure plenty of companies make $$$ of the oil sands but from what I understand it's still more profitable to bump it out of the ground. Just what I've been told. I do not clame to be a oil sands expert. Hell I work in a power plant at a refinery. I just make steam:)

    false statement ^^^
separating the oil from the bitumen does cut into profits, it does not cost more than the value of the end product as was suggested.

Whoa whoa whoa, stop throwing around words like bitumen, which show that you sir, actually know what you are talking about. This thread looked to be more for people who have no clue what they are talking about, from what I gathered on page 1.

Was not saying it costs more than the final product just that it does cut into profit a little.
