man i feel this. my payments recently went up from $88/mo to $89. on a serious note, does anybody pay for full liability/collision on their used tacos? the only people with collision i know of have leases on newer trucks.

I've had full coverage on mine since I bought it new. I paid in cash too. My wife went through an accident once with a rental where we had optioned for the full coverage so we weren't liable for any damages. If we hadn't done that, we would have been liable for $20k+ in damages (both parties at fault). I'm a decent driver and don't take risks often, but in the event a disaster occurs, I'd rather have the peace of mind that I'm covered.

Find a good independent agent and let them shop multiple brands for you (as they do)

State Farm is solo, and Jake and Patrick are well paid for their bubble bath ads.

Absolute minimum coverage required by law. I found out the hard way that drivers are required by law to carry insurance(or a bond the average cop doesn't know about), but there are no laws or regulations that require an insurance company to honor their contracts.
Insurance is a national scam run by organized crime.

SF here also, my spotless/acc. free record is even longer than yours. Zero tickets/accidents, the only claim in the last 25 years is a total loss (comprehensive) due to a hurricane. They tried to lowball me on the total loss at the time and I fought it. In the end I came out with $8500 more then they tried to get me to accept. I won't even get into how bad SF bent me over on the household claims from the hurricane.

    I pay $625 every 6mos.

I wish my insurance was as low as $450 for 6 months per vehicle. I pay a "cheap" $600 every 6 months per vehicle with my Drive Safe and Save discounts from State Farm. Then again I live in Michigan, home of the highest auto insurance rates in the nation.

We have an insurance agent who does the leg work.
We jump back and forth between travelers and Safeco every 3-4 years.
    New policy is with travelers.
Safeco raised prices on us this yr no claims made.
We have both cars and the house insured by the same company.

We actually came in at 100$ less than last yr.
I pay in full for the yr also saves some $

What anyone else pays has no bearing on what you pay. Every company has their own underwriting guidelines. Some are better at underwriting than others. State Farm, for example, is terrible at it. The ONLY way to get the best rate for YOU is to comparison shop multiple companies for identical coverages. Anyone who tells you "This company is always lowest," or "That company is the best" is talking out of their ass.

And yes, inflation has fucked the insurance market. Claim costs have skyrocketed for a variety of reasons, including inflation. Companies are still trying to figure out how to underwrite accurately in the post-Covid world. Very few of them have gotten it right to this point.

FWIW, with next month's renewal my auto went up 26% and my home went up 9%. Nothing has changed on my end. No accidents, no tickets, no claims, no nothing.

The underwriting just depends if you have "a guy" for that or not. We switched to State Farm after years of Progressive once "our guy" got us a better rate there. Granted said rate also includes a discount for having renters through them too, but still.

Also have State Farm but am only 24, clean record with a 2013 Sport, full coverage 100k/300k with slightly lower deductibles than yours paying $533 per 6 months on the taco. Mine has also been going up every 6 months since I switched last year which annoys me but still cheaper than what I had before. That's also with stuff like multi vehicle, safe driver, etc. discounts.

If you have a Costco membership check out their auto policy. I think it’s called Connect through AmFam. A friend recommended it to me and it was way cheaper than geico which I used to have. I’m in CA and have a clean record and I pay about $250 every 6 months for full coverage and 1000 deductible on my 06 Tacoma, with good driver and multi car discount.

But have you had to actually call them and use them? They could be like that The General car insurance for sketchy people.

No one has "a guy" in underwriting. Underwriting is done by underwriters and actuaries who work for the insurance company itself. You can have an agent who finds you a better rate with this company or that company, but the agent has nothing to do with underwriting.

I have not, as I’ve never been in an accident (knock on wood) but my friend who recommended them has. They said they were great and had no issues. Really who has good experience with insurance these days anyway? At least it’s cheap and a reputable company. By all means look them up on your own before switching, but I just know it came highly recommended and saved me money.

    My 08 w/200k miles was T-boned other driver’s fault.
Safeco absolutely made it easy on me.
They said don’t even talk with other drivers insurance they would handle everything.
Got damm good money for my totaled truck and also extra for my aftermarket add ons.
They even paid for the flatbed to bring my ass home after it happened. IMG_8845.jpg IMG_8846.jpg IMG_8851.jpg
Dammit frame was pretty new with suspension body, rad mounts rack and other items while Toyota was doing frame.
Still makes me want to shed some tears!

I pay $1,817.13 a year with USAA and that includes my 2015 TRD Sport V-6 Tacoma and my wife’s 2019 Camry XSE. I’m 48 and my wife’s 38, I got a younger one this time around.
