I've had Unitrin and no one can really touch them except for Geico. But Geico is only cheaper if they take it out of my bank account which is BS. My bank pays my bills for me and I prefer controlling my money so no Geico for me.

My step dad is an Allstate agent, so I obviously have Allstate. and you DEF CANT compare amounts with anyone. some of the main factors are zip code, driving record, time you have had a license, and a big one is your CREDIT SCORE.

OP you should open up a poll

i have nationwide, better than state farm imo ( i had them too) but nationwide hates to fight in court if an accident wasnt your fault but you were found at fault (Car merged into my driver side fender and i got a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident)

Allstate can suck balls, an alstate driver hit me and ruined my IFS she even got a reckless driving ticket and they didnt want to foot the bill except for 1000, they claimed you could replace coils shocks tie rods a rack and pinion differential and body damage for 1k including labor...screw them but thats why i have a sas now

I was with USAA for 20 years. Switched to Geico after my second daughter turned 16 and saved quite a bit of money. I've been with them now for 3 years and have had 4 claims and I don't have one complaint. They paid promptly and let me get my cars fixed at the body shop of my choice.

State Farm since I turned 25 and could get away from the no-name companies, and before that I only bought used vehicles because I couldn't afford full coverage. Once I turned 25 I could get full coverage with them for less than I was paying for liability only.

I've only had a few claims with them over the last 20 years, but they have always treated me well. With some shopping around I might be able to save a little, but it's not worth the hassle for a few dollars. I still pay less for full coverage than I did for liability, and my cars are worth 3X what I used to drive.

We'll see what happens when my first daughter gets her license, though.

Sadly, even if it's not your fault, most insurance companies consider the accident avoidable if the primary impact point was ahead of your door handle and behind the other guy's door handle.

Ya... even if he's towing a trailer and driving like a jackass. They just assign 40% fault to you for not slamming on the brakes and getting rear-ended.

I have Erie insurance. I'm pretty sure since the OP is in NY he would have accesss to a nearby agent.

I've never had a claim problem, and as for the rates they seem competetive with other people in my ares/age range.

But a lot of the guys are right your location has a TON to do with the rate that you'll get quoted.

I think also a big factor are teh multi-policy discounts like if you have your home owners insurance with a particular company also.

    Usaa for 10 months now.

Was in an accident in the third month. Technically my fault. Didn't pay a dime. I pay 100 a month for minimum/glass/theft/under insured/vandalism/medical/and roadside. Minimum minimum is 50a month. I'm 22 and have also had three speeding tickets. I pay less now then in high school driving my parents 66 vw through state farm.

& f*ck a Ins company that requires a credit check to determine what & if you can be covered.

All that does is put a unnecessary hard inquiry on ones credit report/score.

    Bullshit imo.

USAA runs everything financially in my life from insurance, to IRAs, to mortgage(s), college savings, to checking and they are fantastic people. The convenience is so great that I don't even know if they're the cheapest, but they are 150% the easiest and their rates as best I can tell are damn good. I do know my mortgage rates can't be beat.
