I'm not sure I would keep full coverage on a vehicle that old but I've been known to drop the collision insurance and just keep comprehensive coverage at $100 deductable. It was actually pretty affordable and paid off a few times over the years. One time my car got broke in to at the movie theater and my stereo system taken. It covered the window and part of the stereo. Another time someone slashed a bunch of tires in my neighborhood. I got 4 new tire for $100. They even covered the tow truck in the claim and a rental car for a day. I would have been all out of my pocket or master card if I didn't have it on those paid off older cars.

You'd say that until an USAA customer nearly totals your wife's car with your wife and 6 year old in it and realize that USAA is just as shitty as every other insurance company and they simply make a living milking their "tradition".

I almost went with Amica. Both Amica and USAA are consistently top rated.

When I called Amica to get a quote over the phone, they asked a series of questions and one of them was, "Do you own any guns..."?

I said, "Yes...why do you want to know...?

Their next question was "How many..." At that point I cautioned them and said I have no intention of describing my LEGALLY owned firearms ANY further. If that's a requirement of Amica before I can obtain an insurance quote...I can save us both some time. To which they replied, "We just want to be sure you don't own anything that may, ultimately, compromise US...blah, blah, blah."

Needless to say...I have USAA insurance. They're priced outstanding and their service is one of the, if not the, highest rated.

There's an infinite amount of variables. Insurance should be shopped but one's self, or an independent agent, all other internet price figures are meaningless, as there's a lottery chance someoneasomeone else's area and profile will match yours.

Not that it matters, as the results you requested don't either, but you're in the wrong forum.

I’ve had really good luck with Progressive. I think the rate is way cheaper than every other major insurer I’ve quoted. And whenever I’ve had a claim (even major ones) they have been quick to help get it resolved.

Contemplating dropping my coverage and just have liability. Anyone here do this? I’m at a point now where I know I’m keeping my truck until it dies and I don’t care about cosmetic damage. Also have front and rear steel bumpers

How much is your truck worth? If you don’t have that amount sitting in the bank untouched and not needed, then it’s a bad idea. You crash into a car and total it and your own truck, you have no vehicle anymore.

They paid out almost 21K on my 2 year old wifes RAV4 to repair, settle, and diminished value on a 26k vehicle. Sounds like I got lucky.

Sorry your still waiting for satisfaction.

Independent insurance agent for 23 years. I rep for 17 auto companies. I'd tell you to find an independent insurance rep in your area, ask how many companies he can run you a quote with and ask him to email you all of their quotes. I'd also advise you to purchase at least $300,000/per person liability insurance, if not $500,000. You will not find your best deal on this forum, so you have work to do. Go to NADA or equivalent, find the book value of your vehicle and contrast that (minus your deductible) to the cost of collision coverage. First blush answer...I don't have one customer among over 400 that still carry collision on anything that old. Do your due diligence, only you can find your best deal.

By the way...the companies cited on this thread, some of which I rep for, my other companies beat them on price all.day.long. You will find your best deal most probably elsewhere of these. And my son-in law is the #1 State Farm agent in East Texas. I beat the pants off of him EVERY TIME we both get to quote someone. EVERY TIME. Just replaced his auto/home deal at $7,200 for my son with my deal, better coverage, at $4,700.

As for being asked about your guns? That's none of their fuckin' business. Click. Not a single company among my 26 home insurers ask that question as part of underwriting a policy. Dogs, yes. Guns, no. You got any form of pit bull, or about nine other breeds? Click.
