I'd say overlanding is now a term used to describe all the camping gear you can bolt onto a truck.

I spent a fair a mount of time backpack camping when I was younger and had better knees. The amount of gadgets and gizmos I see on some trucks amazes me. If you need all that to be comfortable, are you sure you actually enjoy being outdoors? And think how much easier that last trail would have been if your truck wasn't hauling 1700 lbs of creature comforts.

Dude, THANK YOU for bringing this up. I’ve always wanted to but feared I would get total backlash for crushing so many “overlanders” dreams. Lol. I absolutely hate the word. It’s called off-roading and camping here in the US.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Could be the first overlanding rig:

Pierce Arrow debuted the Touring Landau in 1910, with a rear seat that converted to a bed, a fold-down sink, and a chamber pot.

The best is when you ask for said piece of gear and the batteries are dead. HahahahA

What do mean the rechargeable ham slicer is down…!!??

That’s what I love about OverCamping!! You get to meet so many whackos in the woods!

Well that was a waste of space. I don't use the chamber pot in my modern camper either. I take my trusty trench-digger and walk 30 feet in any direction. Sure it horrifies everyone else at the municipal picnic pavilion, but I have to follow the spirit of true overlanding!

Lol, I should send you one of my Crap Straps! Yep, thought I made up a sweet invention, only to find it already on the web. I will find the post…one moment ;)

edit: here it is. Was it a joke, sort of; was it useful…yes.

    SlingPot v1
    F.S.A.G (For $hits and Giggles)
    Price: $19.99

Kit contents: FSAG(1) , GATRD Magnetic Koozie

That’s right folks, step right to be the first to get possibly the most handy little piece of camping gear you can own.

What is it you ask?! Well it’s a strap that helps ya crap..but, wait there’s more.

This little handy jammer, can be used to hang gear, a tarp, or even can be a part of your FAK. There is enough 2” webbing to make some serious tourniquets!

    First 10 orders get a Built2Ride surprise gift/swag/thingy!!!

Around 1996 I did just that in a Oldsmobile Achieva rental car going from outside of Las Vegas to some ghost town out in the boonies. 100+ miles on dusty trails that were barely 2-tracks. I had no idea I was an Overlanding trendsetter. If only we had Instagram back then...

The idea of overlanding is cool until you realize it’s just a bunch of swinging wieners hanging out around their trucks all day and driving. Sure you can see some cool sights but just go backpack and actually get out in the nature instead of treating it like a catered safari. Earn those views with your legs.

I did enough Car Camping, Boon docking and Overlanding when I was in the Army. I am done sleeping in vehicles or sleeping on the ground/in a tent.

I saw these just the other day on CL. Perfect for overlanding, you can strap your toothbrush to one foot and have a mag on the other.
    All below the ankles!!! STFU

I'm actually opening up a dojo. Balancing Infinite Bikram Movements Studio. 8:30 is our creative overland shitting class, but please stay for our 9:30 aerial silk dancing session.

I find my students have more motivation when they have reason to not touch the floor.
