All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Who wants to go camping…I mean kite flying. Lol

Same goes for "tactical" and "vintage"... lol. Overlanding is pretty much getting out in the middle of nowhere, sleeping on top of your truck, and impressing people with how much equipment you can strap on the side of your truck and drive around with just to use 1 time a year.

When I worked as a cross country surveyor for power company transmission lines back in 19-none-of-your-business we hit some pretty remote unspoiled areas.

But it was all owned by someone.

Sometimes our hope was to be able to get unstuck and out of the area well before dark so we didnt have to sleep in the truck. Hungry.

For you bare nessesity types, the vehicle was a carbruated straight 6, 4 speed, manual case/hubs, steel front bumper with a PTO winch. No AC, no jukebox, no corporate comm.

So yea. We drove over land.

Its historical definition includes travel to see other cultures. Coming to California from back east could count, I guess! But you also have to take the long way over several days, weeks, months and be self contained.

Overlanding is when you take a $75,000 over modified truck that’s actually too heavy to go on a real trail a few hundred feet off pavement and set up an exquisite campsite and take pictures of you doing semi outdoorsy things with an Instagram model who has an extremely nice ass.

I believe the Europeans call that "Grand Touring." Somehow that still sounds less pretentious than overlanding.

I thought that was driving a $300,000 coupé to Monte Carlo with your mistress?

I don't like to presume that these people don't use their rigs for overlanding. I they can look very impressive. And I'm sure they're necessary on the Serengeti.

But it seems to be a pain to mix offroading and glamping together. If you want electric and propane and all these amenities, seems easier to plop a trailer down and then take your truck out exploring without all the extra weight. Probably costs the same too, and you get AC

That's usually done in sporty cars (with your mistress) vs an offroad capable vehicle though.

Yes, while learning how to paint and annoy your travel companions. Its a pretty strict regimen if you keep to tradition.

Pretty sure overlanding is another term to describe maxed out credit cards and crushing debt while trying to look like you're a wealthy explorer of the wilds living off your youtube money.
