Not mutually exclusive. Here in UT, there's a lot of places that I suppose you could get a small trailer like a turtleback into, but the effort of doing so could potentially ruin the trip for the end user. Plus then you have to have a place to keep it, another registration tag, potential monthly payment, lower fuel range, maintenance concerns, etc.

There's def some downsides to having a built out truck, mainly for DD-type use, but there are ways to mitigate some of it, and the rest is just part of the deal.

You could do a round trip of California alone and see a few different cultures. Humbolt/Siskiyou vs Bay Area vs EL AAAAA is like being in 3 different states.

Overlanding (noun): the only way I can get the wifey to go camping with a way-too-expensive French Bulldog that cant hike or take heat bc it's not a real dog so it can be shown on Tik Tok and Insta to shove in the faces of our East-Coast friends and family... what has become of me :crapstorm:

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

Overlanders drink off the grid coffee and use trailer hitch toilet seats.

So now you see the pains of overlanding. The equipment gets outdated so quick..just wait a month or so, it will come back in style :)

It’s kinda like regular camping except all the stuff you would normally store in the garage and pack in the bed when actually need it you pay 10 times the amount so it can bolt it to your truck and you can drive around with it all the time so everyone knows how adventurous you are. Then a couple times a year you drive all your stuff to a campsite where you pretend your on a 10k off-road trip to Alaska then sleep on all your stuff and take pictures of it to put on instagram so other people can like your stuff as much as you do. I like my truck I like stuff and I love to play fort so I definitely think I could get into it.

Just did a dirt bike rally with a friend of mine who brought his Class C RV, I stayed in it…able to get the trailheads with ease. Sure has me rethinking this whole camping thing. He only paid $20K for it too. Some retired guy bought it, use it a few times then parked it. It was like having a studio apartment.

My trailer stickered for 11.5. It came with a stupid 10 year finance that had a lower minimum than the bag of coffee I stocked the galley with. I took a very leisurely two years to kill that note and still felt guilty about it. I'd say in the 6 years of ownership it's paid for itself many times over. Its a little hotel room that you can drag across a field. And if it isnt 15 minutes away from the things you want to see and do that day, no problem. Just drag it closer.

Its everything I want in a vacation - relaxation, sight seeing, culture, and staying the fuck away from other people.

My wife is trying to talk me into a pop up camper, kinda a pain to haul the bikes. The ones you can have too much tongue weight. Or I could pull the topper and haul them in the bed, but the tail gate has to be down which will kill the paint real quick on the FS roads I travel on.

Like those inTech trailers, not sure they are worth $25K. Trailer makes more sense than having all that crap bolted to your rig all the time. Only toting around the weight on trips, instead of the daily Starbucks routine.

Use this excuse, my wife used it on me to talk me out of buying a pop up trailer instead of getting a hard shell trailer; when it gets windy it’ll make loud rattling noises inside and scare the kids and we won’t be able to sleep.
