I did all that, try it in a tent and write back.

I'll say it... overlanding is a fad much like the hula hoop.

I used to have a used tepui and a bedrack I welded up . Luckily I sold it for what I had in it . Nothing beats a easy breakdown and relocation for me. That's just us though maybe.

Can't beat experience whatever gear you have.

Nice, where’d you go? We were in eastern Oregon for most of it, Death Valley too. RV leveler wedges save the day on trips when we park at night and don’t like the slope, summer monsoon in Death Valley at night made for a muddy morning and the tent was dry and clean putting it away, the wind never bothered it either, the buffalo were fun- Open range camping in Oregon and the bison pushed over the table and chairs , broke one, and tipped the cooler over. Iv’e seen them trample tents in Catalina so that must not have been fun, woke up to melting snow in it in New Mexico one winter, I was driving on backcountry roads though it to Texas, the road defrosted later that day too and became a muddy clay mess And I still have red clay baked on my cats, we had to park in a cholla area late at night- it covered miles around us in Northeastern Nevada. All in all, our $750 Smittybuilt RTT has done us really well! We have a Springbar we take sometimes too, especially for base camping when we return to the same spot each night- RTT’s kinda suck for that if you want to go on day drives or stand up in them, otherwise they are great for touring when you drive all day and camp in a new unknown spot each night, pretty much anywhere off the trail, when you are ready to sleep and don’t want to deal with finding a good spot to set up a ground tent.

Yellow stone, death valley, geyser national park, glacier lake and bunch of other crap out west. My family did a cross country trek when I was 8, would have to check the trip journal to get all the locations. Remember making fires with buffalo chips. My job was to set up the tent, it was for 5 people and not small, and an 8 year old with a shovel could set it up in 15 mins in any weather. Can only imagine how quickly a motivated adult could do it, and we could drive the car away with it set up to.

So what happens when the terrain gets so steep you run out of blocks? :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:

I just camped on a bison range this April. Never again. Those fuckers rolling through at 3 AM, snorting at your windows, threatening to charge every time you step out to take a piss... No me gusta.

I mean, it's made for some interesting stories. But nope, not doin it again.

That’s the best part- just what kids are for! You make a good point, can’t just drive away and leave the tent set up with a RTT. I would never buy one of those silly awnings and surrounding sunshades, what’s the point of sleeping next to your car in a garage?

    Work in progress...
Ya blew out one flip flop and lost the other in the mud down at Lake Mead. Your truck is 1/2 mile up the hill, its 112 degrees and the rocks and sand are friggin hot on your bare feet. Ya find an old pair of what looks like underwear along the trek. One blown out flip flop and one, questionable, piece of cloth to keep your feet from deep heat blisters, Ya "Over Land" it back to the truck.

Well if you did not bring it with you it looks like you need to get some extra asphalt shipped 'overland' to ya. or perhaps just call it quits and head home. :)

Now they seem to just take $100K trucks on a road trip that could be done in any basic AWD suv. Their latest trip to Alaska is what I would refer to as just a family vacation. No need to call it an expedition with an expedition leader, matching pants and pretending to be in the military with guns strapped to your chests at all times. Weird.

Yeah it was really weird, that’s a good word for it. When they did their South America series and those older ones, I was a huge fan. Now they’re just going way overboard.
