I went from living at home and my dad bringing home over 200k + by himself a year (own medical practice) to moving out and joining the military. 250k to 30k is a pretty big change in life style conpaired to what i grew up with and am use to....I need to buy more lottery tickets i guess :annoyed:

Interesting, too bad it only contains major metropolitans. For example, living in chittenden county vermont is effing expensive, but living anywhere else in vermont is much less so.

All in the eye of the beholder really, my wife and i make less than 35k a year combined. But go to school full time, Have an roof and food and never go with out those. Having savings it hit or miss but its what ever for the time being. Kids do add to the cost but not lile everyone thinks. For me i was comfortable at 60k just by my self. But i feel anyehere from 100k to 300k by my self would be more than enough for us. Now of course you need no where need that to live comfortably.

Sitting about $130k (100k taxed) between the two of us, wife is a CPA and i'm active duty. we are comfortable right now and live well within our means. like someone said earlier about more money=more problems is the truth, we have no kids and are dual income and are screwed on taxes every year. COLA in Reno is rising and we fortunately got here as the housing costs were going up. we max out IRA's every year, i contribute to TSP and she maxes the match for her 401k plus some. only debt we have is the house and I wouldn't necessarily consider that bad debt to have as long as the market stays consist for a few more years. if we want to buy something we can without taking out loans or using a credit card (although we do it for the points and pay it off immediately).
