Why are you trading so soon?

I recently sold a vehicle through KBB instant cash offer.

I could have gotten more but I didn't have to deal with tire kickers or questionable funds.

You can take it to a nearby Carmax and get a good idea of trade in value.

They pay near top dollar for low mile late model vehicles.

You can try and run some ballpark numbers here:
    1. https://www.kbb.com/whats-my-car-worth/
    2. https://www.edmunds.com/appraisal/1
    3. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/instantMarketValue.action

Once you price it out online, take it to CarMax if you have one nearby and get them to run some numbers on it.

My guess would be maybe 35 to 36K but keep in mind that Domestic Trucks have HIGH markups so negotiate the price of the truck you think you want FIRST and don't tell them you have a trade.

Then once you have settled on an Out The Door purchase price you can bring in the trade negotiation.

Keep in mind also that in some states the buyer can save tax on the difference of the value of your trade. To simplify (perhaps overly) if you buy a 40k truck and they value your trade at 30K, you only pay tax on the 10K difference-- make sense?

I was thinking of trading my Limited last year and best offer I received from 3 dealerships was $34,500. At that time my truck was only 7 months old with 2850 miles on it.

OP: I'd go to the top right corner of your original post and Edit the title of your thread to something like "Trade Value of my ThirdGen--for new F-150?" I think you will get a TON more inputs.

Of course it will probably get locked within the hour too.

Let us know how all this works out in the end. I have roughly the same truck as you and have wondered what loss I would take.

I looked into it with mine just for shits and giggles, I'd be taking an 8 K loss at this point of course mine has over a year and 22k miles on it.

Figure what the best number you can buy it new for, and take 4 grand off that. That's what you'll be offered.

    Bone stock...
a trade-in is technically a like-kind exchange so if you trade in and get a truck that's close to the trade value, you'll only have to pay sales tax on the difference.

Carmax will low ball you big time.
I also used the instant trade thing. I was very happy with what I was offered and it was a smooth transaction. I recommend it.

Carmax offered a friend 3k more than any dealer in the area for her Jeep.
