Can’t figure this one out, just started today. It’s a very electronic chirp in the dash somewhere, regularly like every couple seconds. Not through the stereo, blower on or off, a/c on or off, engine doesn’t have to be on but electric does. Any ideas? I removed the door open chime piezo or whatever it is years ago. No new electric or any other work recently. ‘99 prerunner, auto 4 cyl.

ChatGPT says blend door actuator. Sounds like a smoke detector that needs a new battery.

Mine does the same thing. I swore it was a critter but its not. I've let it go to being part of its old truck personality. Straight up tripped me out when I first heard it. Along with the sometimes clickety click from behind radio when I turn the key to ACC and don't start it.

Does your truck have a power antenna or cruise control? Those would be my guesses unless it's a beeper the ECU or SRS module. On my '02 the only piezo beeper on the Body ECU is the one you said you removed for the door chime, so that should rule out that one. Some servos can make beeps so it could possibly be the blend door actuator as well. Maybe recirc?

Been a while since I've seen an ECU opened, but could there be piezoelectric in there?
    Weird security system?

Mine sounds like a baby bird or pinky mouse noise somewhere in there but impossible. Chirp chirp, not sure like I said it's weird like rotational with nothing on that spins or radio static. very suttle, I thought it was a bird outside chirping first time I heard it. My noise happens when key is on acc ? Probably one of those items honeybadger mentioned.

I hope not! I just replaced em last year.

Anyway, it chirps regardless of HVAC on or off, engine on or off, doesn't vary with engine speed or stereo volume. Previous owner had an alarm in there, but it was removed 15 years ago. And I've never heard this before. I'll just hope it goes away, at least until it bothers me enough to go on a bug hunt.

Totally unrelated, but I've been getting a lot of "cool Tacoma!" comments lately. Even guys who want to just talk trucks. At the lumber yard, at Home Depot, even at Krogers. Not sure why, I haven't even washed her in a few months. Maybe the new bumpers & grill?

Yours is probably the blower motor for the HVAC.

Very common and very easy fix.

Mine sounded like a rodent orgy when I’d turn the fan on. I removed it (three screws), cleaned it, sprayed silicone lube where the bearing is, and it’s been dead silent for 12 years since.

that chirp would drive me nuts.

I’d take the 3 mins to remove the center dash and try to find the peizo or whatever it is making that noise.

Then figure out the solution: rip it out or what

I hear ya, It's on the list. It's summer in Texas now all I hear these days is A/C on hi and radio. Blower cage and motor way quiet and clean.
