I will be doing the Rubicon in a few weeks. I have my Tacoma about as ready as I think I can get it. Last bit of the full skids were finally done this weekend. Only armor I am lacking is on the rear spring hangers. I wont get to that and have debated flipping them. I am really trying to figure out what spares I should bring at this point. The only thing I really have so far, and think I need from what I have read, is a spare CV axle. I will go as light and easy on the throttle as possible and main plan is to get out clean so I can drive back home. Please advise if you have any experience with spares to bring on a trip like this. Thanks.

ive run it in my taco and gladiator. Ive run it four times this summer in my gladiator. You should carry a spare CV and inner tierod. Have fun and be light on the throttle. Id stay out of little sluice and take the bypass if its your first time. The trail is long and its very hard for low clearance long rigs.

Thanks for that bit of advice. I will add the tie rod to the CV axle. I do plan to be as easy as possible and will by-pass where ever I can. At least on this trip. Armor is heavy, so I am optimistic.

You wont need an outer tie rod. Make sure you grab a inner tie rod. That and CV are really the common failures.

    :worthless:

As stated, a spare CV (maybe two) is a must. Those 35" or 33" tires? Sounds like you have a decent grasp of what not to do. I was supposed to run the trail two weeks ago but the trip fell through. Best of luck!

My buddy just got back from Black Bear Pass. He had the issue of slicing his ARB air line to the rear locker. Maybe a push-connect splice would be handy? (If you've got air lockers)

The tires are 285/75 17. So 34" in theory, but smaller in reality.

Thanks for that tip! I have hear of some the issues with air locker. I went with Harrop elockers front and rear. So far so good but this will be the biggest test for sure!

Haven’t done that trail but besides the spare cv axle (don’t forget the 35mm socket) and tie rods, I always take brake fluid and a serpentine belt when I go off-roading.

I 2nd an extra serpentine belt. Rare to fail, but it's super critical.
