I have recently been experiencing lower back/leg pain while driving my 2018 Tacoma. Today I was feeling around and felt a bar which was putting pressure on my back. I removed the back of the seat cover and found this metal bar inside the seat, with a roller and a cable attached to it, that runs to the top of the seat near the head rest. When this support is pushed on it raises the head rest mount.

What is the function of this and is there any reason that I should not disconnect the cable running to the head rest?

I think that prevent whiplash in case of a rear end crash . Active head restraint
