What is Leather on Tacoma and How to Make it Vegan

I'm interested in buying a 3rd or 2nd Gen Tacoma, but noticed that there seems to be some leather parts. So my first question is what is leather on the 3rd and 2nd Gen Tacoma. I noticed on some the steering wheel appears to be leather, also the dust cover or whatever that is around the automatic transmission shifter, and the parking break. Anything else leather that come more or less standard? I know some have leather seats but those are easy to avoid. These parts I mentioned seem to come, more or less, correct me if I'm wrong, standard. So my 2nd question is if there are aftermarket parts or things that can be done to remove or change the leather parts?

I heard back from Toyota customer service and they said that if Toyota says "leather" in their brochure it is real leather. See my post on page 24 for complete detail. So it looks like 2019 SR5 has leather steering wheel standard, but SR appears to not have any leather standard, according to Toyota customer service.

 

Don't worry, its not real leather. No cows were harmed in the process.

Im a vegitarian and I drive a Tacoma. Cant go vegan though. I like cheese to much.
Go SR and you can avoid most of leather. Not sure about steering wheel or shifter boot.
Heard we have soy based wiring harness's but rodents like them to. Ive had my Tacoma 2 years and love it animal parts and all. I just dont think about it.

SR5 adds leather steering wheel.
TRD OR, TRD Sport, Limited, Pro add leather shift knob, and leather seats are available.

No. All my shoes are non-leather, even my leather looking office shoes are manufactured by a vegan company called Vegetarian Shoes.

Just as an FYI OP- Toyota replaced most of it's leather offerings with SofTex. Looks like leather, kinda feels like leather but doesn't wear like leather meaning after a car is brought back in off lease the seats still look good.

 

Pretty much all the non-vegan products have been made vegan, and taste the same pretty much. Vegan cheese that melts, cream cheese, sausages, hot-dogs, burgers, milk, butter, ice cream, honey (agave nectar).

 

If it all tastes the same..... um.... that sounds horrible.

 

Watch some of that stuff. Agave is especially bad for being mixed with corn syrup or other “fillers.” Can’t remember the documentary but they went pretty in depth with the honey and sweetener industry.
