What is Leather on Tacoma and How to Make it Vegan

I think in the movie they put the old people in a blender with some grass or something. A green smoothie like deal.

I heard back from Toyota customer service. Looks like the leather on the SR5 steering wheel is actual leather, at least that is what is claimed by the customer service. This is different than what I was told by a sales person in a Toyota dealership, and other people also. Here is the exact info I found for 2019 Toyota Tacoma:

Regarding the 2019 Toyota Tacoma SR5, I noticed in the brochure that it says Leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth®7
hands-free phone controls are standard. Is that real leather or fake leather? I ask because multiple people, and even the Toyota dealership sales people have told me that those steering wheels are not real leather. ...

Response from Toyota:

Thanks for asking, Mr. XXXXXX; where Toyota says it's leather, it is actual leather.

Gotta throw that steering wheel out for sure. It'd be terrible to have an animal lose it's life and for someone to use it's parts

 

I'll get the SR. I test drove both SR and SR5, and I prefer the SR steering wheel. Seemed to me that SR5 stitching around the steering wheel was more likely to get dirt and grime stuck in it. Might go with 4 cylinder SR Crew Cab.

 

See, in your question it seems as if you are wanting to hear it is real leather, so that is the answer you got. I would be curious if one were to explain the vegan aspect and show concern of it being real, would they then say it is fake just to give you the answer they think you want?

 

When I asked the person at the dealership if it's leather I didn't hint that I was vegan. He claimed that it was not real leather because leather gets damaged faster, thought that was a 2016 Tacoma so maybe there is something different there compared to the 2019 which Toyota customer service is talking about. (Update: 2016 brochure also says leather for steering wheel of SR5) Actually I was hoping they would say it's not real leather. Increases my options.
