Well, I'm up for a little experiment. How did you go about contacting them? I will send an email with a tone of concern of it being real leather, and see if I get a different answer.

I think I just went online and filled out the email form for customer service. I think they also had a telephone option, but I thought email would be more official.

I too prefer the SR wheel.

If you put the stitching under a microscope you would find ghastly things.

Alright, I have a great idea. Rub hydrogen peroxide into the SR5 stitching. Not only kills the ghastly things, but if it changes the color of the wrap, bleaches it, then it is indeed real leather.

Would hydrogen peroxide do that to leather? I thought it only reacts with organic fluids, not just organic substances. I though the tanning process would remove the enzymes

    Fun facts...

About 63% of this electricity generation was fromfossil fuels (coal, natural gas, petroleum, and other gases). About 20% was from nuclearenergy, and about 17% was from renewableenergy sources.Mar 1, 2019

Everyone thay switches to electric vehicles has no idea that all they are doing is changing their greenhouse gas emissions from their cars tailpipe to the smoke stack at the power plant.

Yeah it’s been smoldering for 25 pages and caught fire a couple of times but the Mods extinguished the flames. It’s still smoldering though just waiting for the right breeze.

I believe a good dose of peroxide will strip the dye from leather, exposing the plain hide. Peroxide on fake leather there won't be any color change.

I pulled the trigger and purchased a 2019 SR, 4 cylinder, white, Crew Cab, Convenience Package, short bed. Was going to wait it out until Christmas where better sales are available, but my vehicle was begining to break down so had little choice. Surprisingly there were some dealers selling more powerful SR packages, like TSS or something like that, which still had the vegan steering wheel but could be V6, 4x4, etc. Switched out the new tires with my used but larger 265/75R16. Purchased a couple of cubbie organizers. Waiting to do a lot more mods: leds, fog lights, android auto, tri-fold bed cover, phone mount, etc. Noticed there is no plastic fender above the tires, if that's the term. Might add those if they have a practical function, other wise will probably skip it. SR steering wheel is indeed very good. Don't see why they don't put it on the SR5. 4 cylinder so far has been responsive for my purpose, daily driving. Will see how it will respond to additional weight. Steel rims look ok to me. Will not replace them unless for a functional reason, especially if significant weight is added to vehicle with other rims. Weird periodic sound every time the A/C is on, like an electric drum roll or something, doesn't sound good. Anybody experience this? Will probably take it to Toyota to check out. Truck is bigger than my prior SUV, and it's harder to park. Will get the front camera mod and anytime camera mod. Put 3 inch blind spot mirrors which help out to see not only blind spot, but the ground and tires where vehicle is touching the ground on the sides. Helps with parking. Doesn't have intermittent wipers. Might do that mod too. Here are some pics:
