Same could be said about other political topics, yet they are against forum rules. Isn't veganism a politicized plant based diet? Genuinely curious here, no troll intended.

Imagine devaluing your vehicle because of inhumane treatment of animals when the clothes on your back and mine are literally made by sweat shop labor.

    Wonderful thread OP

If the nihilists would all stick to their opinions and kill themselves, there would be a lot more room for everyone else.

Not giving a shit about anything is the worst. At that point, you’re just a meat-bag breathing my air.

As individuals we have an uncanny ability to search for data/results/anecdotes that support our own bias. Hence the politicization of topics as environmental conservation, diet (vegan or vegetarian or omnivore), etc and how these should be handled. Putting all that aside, I think we can all be a little more mindful of the "why" people think the way the do and less so of the "why" I think they are wrong. In the case of veganism, I have found compelling evidence that I should eat less animal products. Doesn't mean I don't, but definitely has made me rethink the way I eat.

Wouldn't driving a car or truck go against being a vegan in general? Think of all the critters you are killing or can potentially kill when you drive down a road, be it insect, bird, mammal, reptiles or amphibian. Just the act of driving would make you a hypocrite of your own beliefs.

Not hypocritical to see the damage you do and try to mitigate that damage in practical ways...

Sorry but making a cat a vegan is straight up animal cruelty. Even the ASPCA website will tell you cat's cannot be vegan. Cats require taurine which is in meat or milk to live a healthy long life. I have nothing against being a vegan but imposing it on some pets to make yourself feel good is the same as making any other animal suffer...

So riddle me this... there are machine cutting fluids out there that have animal products (fats etc) in them (I know this as certain governments prohibit this in the manufacturing of medical devices). As such, it is very likely that these types of fluids have been used in machining your Tacoma engine, transmission, or other parts. Wanting a truly animal free car goes far deeper than leather...

So in another words, be a vegan when it suits you? If you're going to be a vegan, how can you pick and choose when it matters? If you're going to go all the way with the vegan lifestyle, shouldn't you just ride a bike? I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to understand how it works.

No, it’s not a politicicized plant based diet. Politics surround differences in how to allow people to live together. A plant based diet is a choice people make. Like we choose Tacoma and not Ranger.

On another note, my kids prefer plant based chicken nuggets and my wife has discovered some meatless hamburger patties that are outstanding. I know for me, my body feels better on plant based. I still eat meat and usually feel “heavy” afterward. I do think in say 50 years, we will look back and be appalled at how we treat animals today.

I try to drive a bit slower in areas that might have squirrels. I agree that driving and probably many other activities I do can harm things. I don't have all the solutions. Just trying to do my best. The world isn't perfect, but better is still better.

I don't know much about this but wouldn't surprise me. However, I think doing something better is still better than doing it worse.

I would say Mother Teresa addressed this....”If you cant feed everyone, at least feed one person”.

Or in others words, doing good part time is better than no time.

Yeah, the "you can't do everything so you should do nothing" crowd is not thinking this out.

I am sure about the not being a dick part. I know some people are vegans in more of a dietary sense and some are because they don't want to kill other life forms. But if you drive a car or truck, other life forms are going to die, it's inevitable. So where do you draw the line, or when do you worry about little things like there might be some leather in the truck while you are mowing down other critters as you drive it?

I agree that plant based diets are inherently apolitical, but their application through veganism is definitely political. Veganism, at its core, is activism through diet and philosophy. You can enjoy a plant based diet and not be a vegan, but I think you can't be a vegan without being an activist too.

I think the op has a problem with the systematic killing of animals on an industrial scale...so it seems like he draws the line there. The death of the maybe 1 critter he could avoid on a fireroad by not driving ever pales in comparison to the numberless that die in factory settings that could be avoided with cheaper fake leather. Sorry your internalized guilt forces you to lash out online with those trying something better.
