I don't know where you got that from. Most 4 speed automatics have the overdrive on 4th.

Mine feels as though it is a 5 speed auto. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, OD and converter lockup. When the torque converter locks up it can feel like a shift to another gear. Certainly the RPMs drop when it locks.

    Are you serious right now?

Try driving on the highway for a long time at 4k rpm. See how quickly your gas guzzles away, and see how long your engine lasts. Just try it.

Fuel consumption is one thing. The engine will be fine as long as you keep it off the rev limiter...

My Auto is stronger than your manual tranny and gets better MPG stock to stock.

Everyone knows the TRD OR comes stock with it.

You should look up the Dodge Ram's 545RFE auto transmission. It has 6 gears but only lets you use 5 at a time (the ECU picks between two 2nd gear ratios depending on driving pattern).

If you reach your OD in 4WD outside of bad weather conditions you really have no business wheeling...

So, when your driving around town, stop and go traffic, better to have OD off, and if you're cruising down the highway, switch to OD? That correct?

Stop the insanity! Overdrive is simply another gear, your highway/interstate cruising gear. If you're cruising around town, you will never reach that gear, so it doesn't matter if you leave it on or off. In the first 3 gears, your truck will behave identically.

Seriously people, it's overdrive, not rocket science. Next you'll be asking how a camshaft works, I bet?

    *steps down from ranting podium*

When driving around town overdrive should be off. When flying down the highway over 65mph overdrive should be on.

3rd gear in a 4 speed tranny is 1:1 ratio. ...overdrive is somewhere around a .75:1 ...the term overdrive simply refers to a ratio that is "over" 1:1

here's a nifty little chart you can play with to gain a better understanding ....

No one. I found the entrance.

But seriously, don't people even have a basic understanding of their transmissions anymore? Come on, is that too much to expect?

I think thats what these forums are for, because some people don't. Maybe you're just smarter than all of us (or some of us), in which case you should probably find some forums that are up to your level of internet intelligence.

You unfortunately found the Entrance...lets see if you are clever enough to find the Exit.

Good luck lil' dude....doing great job making friends thus far!
