Might help, but aren't you likely to be about as wet under both rear wheels? Power to the front is as good or better in that situation.

I haven't done the mod yet but think it will be helpful driving in 4H in the sand dunes.

Funny my new truck non Tacoma I just pull out on the 4x4 knob and I can lock the rear in 2wd 4 hi and 4 lo. It works great backing up my snow covered driveway. One of the many reasons I didn't go with a Tacoma. I still have my Land Cruiser always have to have 1 Toyota.

it does not have a synchro, and try all you want to drive perfectly straight the chances of you
getting both axles perfectly equal rotation is slim, very slim. so, engage at high speed and you
risk metal chunks or chips if you make a habit of it

Seems like it could be a whole lot of stress on just one rear wheel/axle.

No say on the rest of this thread, but will chime in on this.

There are some pretty strong federal laws in your favor, warranty-wise. It's a common misconception that a dealer can void your warranty for doing anything to your vehicle. They have to be able to specifically prove that your modification lead to any other defect on the vehicle that they're denying warranty coverage on. So, in short, the argument 'he installed a rear locker, which lead to his motor exploding, so we're denying his warranty claim' would never hold up in federal court. If you mess something up and blow up your locked differential, THEN you'd have an issue. But it won't blanket 'void your warranty' on every other part of your vehicle. Ever.
