    lol bump!!!

I can't decide to save my life... I had a 6" fabtech on my last 05 extended cab taco...I only used it for looks, I traveled around the nation/touring doing motorcycles shows... now, I'm retired, and working on my PhD... so I have a 15 dblcab now (I slightly downgraded imo, from TRD offroad, to a TRD sport, but got the double cab because I popped another kid out,).... and being stock height is crushing my soul EVERY damn day I drive to and from work..

my BFF has been getting into trail riding and begs me to get mid travel... however, no one in my family (my husband) gives a shit about this... lmao.. so I feel my reality should just go with a 6" (looks) big ass tires and be happy/proud when I drive my sorry ass to work.

but there's a little voice that keeps whispering to me (my BFF) that I should save up a little more for an icon mid travel suspension.. and force my family to go camping with me. :bananadance:.

I am only willing to spend $3500 for starting out... (this could get me 6" kit, tires and rims) but with the mid travel.. I'd only be able to afford the suspension first, but with low profile shitty tires.. lmao.. I guess I could keep the stock rims for now, and when I upgrade I'll just have to match the same rim size.. (sigh) but I wanted to go smaller rims, 16" with a little bit of an offset.

    ideas??? thoughts?? :)

will I be happy with mid travel in the long run? I had my last taco for 10 years.. I intend to do the same with this one.

I LOVED the 6" look... every time I would see her, I'd get all butterfly tummy feeling.. never failed.. so I'm worried if I only have the 3.5" I'll be like.. meh.. hahahahaha

When I see a 6in lift I see a mall crawler, to each their own. But the mid travel or long travel trucks actually have capability, same or more ground clearance than a drop bracket lift, etc. I'm happy with mid travel because it performs well offroad. I can go places where a drop bracket would have trouble.

It's your truck, you do what makes you happy, but me personally, function is greater than form.

Im a first gen so I'm not in my own territory here but Id go with a nice 3", a 1" body lift (at most) and 33s (or trim for 35s), and see how you like it, that'll be a 5.5" gain over stock, its not the 8.5" of a 6" and 35s but at least it'll have way more function so if you happen to get into any sort of offroad adventures you can, then if all else fails and u want more height (for looks only obviously) you can jump into a DB, sell the tires, and get rid of the BL, but it is hard to turn back from. just my opinion of course

I have 6 inch lift and 35 with front and rear lockers, 4.56 gears, love that thing and i go off road all the time, to me clearance is eveything. Good luck hitting the rubicon trail with 3 inch lift. Aproach and departure is every inch counts

Since this thread was already recently revived, and it's so prominent in the google results for Taco lifts, I'll chime in on what I've gathered. I've been researching the same question as the OP. I already have a crawler Jeep with 7" lift and full-size axles, V8, Atlas, etc, so I have offroad hi-performance covered. It's amazing offroad, but horrible on the freeway and barely legal, so I bought a Taco (My second one). My Taco is my daily driver and I want to get a decent offroad lift that will get me far back into the mountains for a reasonable price. I don't want something like my Jeep where I'm constantly distracted by vibrations, noises, wobbles here and there that stress me out on the freeway. As much as I want 6" lift with 34-inch tires, I want something that performs well and doesn't turn my Taco into an unstable backhoe going down the freeway. Ideally I would like a long-arm setup, but I don't need that level of performance from my DD.

From what I've gathered so far, the 4-6-inch drop-bracket lifts all are about the same and the differences lie in things like the shocks and minor differences in quality control. These kits essentially maintain stock travel, but you gain lift and that means you can get larger tires under it. With larger tires, you gain more clearance.

Lifts reach a certain height and they begin to cause a vehicle to become top-heavy and unstable. My Jeep Wrangler has a short wheelbase and with 7 inches of lift, it's about as high as I want to go. even with the full-width axles, I still feel like any taller and it would be tippy both on and off-road. So, to fit 37" tires without rub at full turn, I trimmed the sheet metal a little. This is easier to do on a Wrangler/CJ than a Taco. You can only trim a little metal off of a Taco before you have to do major surgery to change the location of the front cab mounts.

I've observed that aside from the awesome long-travel setups, most of the high-performance kits are not drop-bracket set ups. Fox, King, Icon, focus on lifts between 1-3 inches. There's a lot of technical development in this range and I think this, combined with minor fender trimming will provide me with the performance level I want. I've arrived at the Toytec Boss Kit with an add-a-leaf rear.

Just wanted to share what I've gathered to others who are also looking at options. Please share any additional information or corrections to what I've gathered.

I've been bouncing betwen the 3" and 6". I like the idea of 35's but also like the idea of mid-travel and was hoping to find a way to mix the 2. From what I have seen with the BDS lift, if you get it with the Fox shocks, it eliminates the strut spacer. So, what you are actually getting is 3" out of the knuckle and 2.5 - 3" from the strut just like on the 3" mid-travel kits. Looks like you can even get the Fox upper control arms or any other you prefer. The only thing I'm a bit down on is the 5" block in back. I plan to forgo the block for a full spring kit lift in the rear and as much travel as I can conceivably get from it along with Fox 2.5's. One nice thing about the 6" lift is the massive knuckles and the fact that the tie rod ends are flipped to the top of the arm instead of underneath which gives a lot better steering angle anyway.

I think this could be just as capable off-road as the 3" maybe even better. Just needs to be done properly.

This is exactly what I am looking to do with my 2016. BDS Drop w 2.5 Fox's, UCA and Full Leaf in the back. No one on here has helped other then talk shit about going above 3"s. Looking for someone with experience on this type of lift.
Do I install a mid 2.5 Fox coilover which would be the stock conversion for a 2-3" lift or should I but the Extended Long Fox 2.5 which I believe is a bit longer?
Which leaf kit should I get? I am not wanting to use a block in the back either. My springs are flat I need to replace them anyways.
I got 7k to spend on suspension, not including rims and tires.... Is there a better way to get to 6" on that budget?

Have any of you replaced the coils on the fox 2.5 coil overs? Looking to get a heavier coil or spring because I feel like it rides like shiz in the front. Pls help or send a link for the right coil that’s heavier to replace the current coils on the front or give me some options to help the front not ride as crappy
