Here's what I went with for my lift. I wish there was something between an AAL and Dakar leaf pack though. With my Leer cap, gear, and sleeping platform in the back, I have some bro lean.

You guys are over thinking it. The difference between and 885 and a 886 is 1.

OP you want better ride so forget about the 5100 series. In lifted applications they are barely better than spacers. Look at the 6112 series. Not that much more expensive but way better!! And they accept 3" coils from brands like King, Fox or Icon so you have more options

Have you looked into Dakars with the 3rd leaf removed?

I have not. Didn't even know that was an option.

It will make the pack softer because you are decreasing Spring rate. I did that. I also removed the longer of the overload springs to shed and additional .5" of lift. Works great for my application and I can always throw them back in if I ever need to

That's what I'm running and I'm happy with the ride and load handling (DCSB with a shell and sliders). It flexes much better than the stock leaf pack too.

That may be ideal for my setup. DCSB, cap, gear, RTT. Do you keep the stock overleaf with the Dakars? I have an AAL now, but the stocks are in the basement collecting dust.

No, Dakars have their own overload leaves

Dakars with the 3rd leaf removed will yield about 2.2" lift without extra weight in the bed, and reduce the spring rate by 15%. Not sure how much sag you'd have with a cap, maybe closer to 2" a little under. It's a tad firm w/o any extra weight in the bed for me, but hoping the extra 40# or so that my bumper will provide far out on the end might be just right. You can also remove one of the overload springs which will reduce the lift by approx .5" without changing the spring rate.

Maybe I should just try the full Dakar leaf since I have the cap, sleeping platform, two totes with gear, roof top tent, and awning that are always in the bed of the truck. But would the Bilstein 5100's be ok with the Dakar leafs? And do I need extended brake lines in the rear?

Yeah, with that much weight, I'd start with the full pack. You may need to go with the extended length 5100's for the Dakar pack, but there are Bilstein options.

I have the 886 coils on 5100s currently installed on my truck. Before i got the bumper installed i thought the ride was pretty stiff, but not unbearable. Once i got my steel bumper installed i noticed a huge difference, but it was still pretty stiff and i feel like a winch would help soften up the ride a bit.

I currently have an aluminum bumper on the way and i am going to swap out the coils for some 887s because i will be dropping about 60lbs off the front and would like a little softer ride in the front.

However it is nice to have the stiff suspension when wheeling though.... that front end does not drop very much when rolling over/off obstacles.

Hey Edward, stumbled across this thread and was interested to see what you ended up doing. I’ve got 100k on my OME setup with 885s......
