Also I believe Toyota has been making substantially less Tacoma's (Due to EPA) which wants them to sell/ make more 30mpg+ cars, like Prius, Yaris, Corolla etc...

Less Tacoma's being made, means higher demand, not enough supply. Also higher transaction prices when purchasing, again equaling higher re-sale value. I'm also sure there was a time when Tacoma production went way down, when they moved the line from California to Texas.

Honestly, I don't know who spends $30K+ on a Tacoma though (Especially the higher end Limited's and Baja models). I love mine, but $30K buys you a really nice Ram, F-150, or Silverado/GMC. Just saying.

I paid $26.5 for my '14, DCSB, PreRunner, 2.7, Super White. Sticker was $27.5. I have no idea what it's worth, and don't care as I plan on running this one into the ground.

BTW, just sold my 2010, DCSB, V6, SR5, PreRunner with 57K miles I bought used. Paid $20K for it, sold to CarMax for $20K

I agree with you, $30k can get you a nice full size.

I paid $32k for my Tacoma, and it has all the options that I wanted. I could have gotten a F-150 STX Extended Cab 4x4 for about the same price. I chose the Tacoma because I didn't need or want a full size and it actually came with more features than the F-150.

I agree with what you that the Tacomas are expensive when loaded up, but I spent the extra cash to have the exact truck I wanted.

How do I get an accurate valuation on my Baja when that option isn't there?

Just ran mine thru kbb and came back at $31000
Because that didn't sound right I went back and did it again
With same parameters it was then $27000
I paid $26000 cash OTD for a 2012 loaded off road package for mine a few months ago and felt it was a good deal.
My experience with dealerships is they use kbb, nada and a few others while negotiating. They will use the highest for there truck and the lowest for your trade in. Went rounds with dealerships on this issue and had a few even bring up trade express and tell me this is what they are going for in a hundred mile radius.
If you pay at or above KBB or other your not really getting a good deal

Honestly, someone who needs 4WD and a 6cyl engine would be the people spending 30k plus on a Tacoma. 30k does not buy you a nice F-150, maybe a complete base model with no options at all. More like 40 - 45k for a "nice" F-150.

You only spent 3.5k less than the 30k limit you put on the Tacoma and don't have 4WD or 6cyl engine.

Wrong, I paid $28K OTD + Fees in 2010, for a then new 2011, XLT, F-150 (SuperCab) F-150 SuperCab is bigger or same as 2nd gen "Double Cab" ,truck had 4x4, SYNC, all the power fixings, 5.0L V8 that gets better milage than the 2nd gen 4.0 V6. Please try again. That same truck I just mentioned had an MSRP of over $38K but with -$10K in incentives, you can easily buy full sized trucks at Tacoma prices or a lot less.

*You can pretty much walk onto any Ford lot, and get $10K off, before negotiating.

In 2012, I traded my 2011, XLT, SuperCab 5.0 in for a new 2013, FX4, Super Crew with every option box checked. MSRP was $53K and I left the dealer at $42.5 plus license and tax. Incidentally, I just traded my F-150 FX4 in for my 2014 Tacoma Double Cab. I basically got almost no deal on the Tacoma, but they matched my CarMax offer for the truck at $40K so I was happy. I could have really taken a bigger bath on that FX4 (Especially with the all new F-150 a few months away) so not getting a better deal on the Tacoma didn't bother me as much.
