Because I can do 14 days, 10 states, 5400mi, 5 national parks, 7 national monuments, 9national forests, with my wife, 6mo and 2.5yo.... and not have it turn into a murder suicide.

I guess I am less of a man for doing it in comfort. Or, am I more of an man for giving zero fucks about what others think?

OK, a question......what do you do with a RTT if you need to drive somewhere??? Do you have to break camp anytime you do??

Just asking for an honest answer. Ground tent, NO. Pull behind trailer/camper, NO. How hard/time consuming is it to breakdown.

Never had one and in fact, never seen one in person.

You just told it back up. It's not hard. I've ground camped, hammocks camped, and rtt camped literally from one end of the country to the other. I'll take RTT over the other two anytime. To easy and 100 times more comfortable

thanks, Flytmech....but wouldn't that be a major inconvenience, say if you wanted to fish somewhere different every day of a week long trip??

It’s just nice to have options. I can pop the tent and sleep up top, I can sleep in the bed of the truck, or I can set up my backpacking tent on the ground. Still have full use of my bed and my truck looks bad ass. F9853CD7-29CD-47F1-BC84-339596CE7CA0.jpgE1B6F1D5-5685-488D-933D-7CACA44AF645.jpg4A8D8EB1-35FD-462F-9D6D-81CF5C48DB63.jpg

I hear this a lot. Am I the only one that breaks camp even with a ground tent? I don’t want my gear stolen.

They are fast to set up and take down, much faster than a tent, and you don’t have to move gear around in back to make sleeping room. We just leave our sleeping bags in ours if we are on a multi-day trip, and all the regular gear stays below. If it’s raining, we fold it up wet and don’t worry about mud and dirt on it. Then we open it up as soon as possible to dry out ( as with all tents, never store wet!) they are great on long distance days when you have to set up in the dark - just park and unfold wherever you are. No searching for a good flat spot. I keep plastic leveler blocks in my truck for leveling it easily: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BUQOF...t=&hvlocphy=9031498&hvtargid=pla-382331282134
If it’s a very windy night, sometimes we just keep it folded up and sleep in the shell, but they are made with very heavy materials and do better in wind than most tents. My wife likes it most as if you have hay fever or dust issues, they keep you out of blowing dust better at night than sleeping on the ground.

    ...too much shit to list.

That’s one of the points of a RTT. Setup and breakdown are fast. Less than 2 minutes to setup, 5 minutes to pack up. Pillows and sleeping bag stay in the tent and get folded up with it so you can literally hit the mattress minutes after putting it in park. Most trips I do are a different camp spot every night. Everything is contained in my truck so it doesn’t look like a damn yard sale around my rig every night.

If you simply open your RTT and extend the ladder, not bothering with the awnings over the windows, you can literally have it up and ready to sleep in within 5 minutes, closed and ready to go within 5 minutes.

All of your sleeping gear (pillows, sleeping bags, the mattress) stays in the tent so you don't have to bother putting them up.

And the mattress in them is much better than any inflatable or camp mattress I have slept on.

They are expensive, less than bumpers. Have to prioritize...

Tried one of these? They pretty much will go anywhere your truck will. With two deep cycle batteries in the nose and a solar panel you can stay in comfort for quite some time. Had one of these but sold it for a Moby 1 teardrop. Wish I'd kept the AT to tell the truth...

i lurk here to gain insight as to why people care. why do we have folks that say 'people with RTTs are overland bros'? what is going on in their proximity that shaped their view into this?

if you're going to make a RTT bro joke make it EAF and at least try to be funny. if you truly believe people buy RTTs as a status symbol maybe make your post but don't publish it until you're really sure what you're trying to say. who the fuck attributes status to me because i own a RTT?
