I have, and thanks. Basically what I have already, but with less room when opened.

What I miss about my Westy is, being able to hang out in it when the weather is foul. If it was super windy I would close the top and still able to sit at a table and do things, like play cards, eat, watch a movie on the laptop, etc. Our Westy didn't have a kitchen, it had a flip up table with a rearward facing seat behind the drivers. With the 'Nest I can't sit up in it when it is closed, either have to lay down or hang out in the cab.

With that Tradesman (owner is a member on here), I could hang out sitting up...and no tent material whipping in the wind, as it gets super windy here. Was going to have Tradesman add a poptop like my Westy, so I could stand up when changing into moto gear.

I do too. I don't usually stay more then one night at the same place, but I always worry about stuff getting taken while kayaking or hiking. And I just have cheap Walmart stuff, but still worry way to much lol.
I'm on the fence of getting a rtt. I feel like a camp enough to where it'd be nice to have the extra comfort, peace of mind from animals (although your more likely to get struck by lighting then have a bear attack, which makes me feel like I should just stick to the ground/hammock), and then it'd be nice to have a cleaner tent when its muddy out.

    Jeep is long since sold.

Bought the trailer from a stack of surplus Mitsubishi CJ3Bs.

What do your neighbors think seeing you sleeping like that? :)

Nice setup, kinda hard to do with one car in the desert, unless you are creative. But be careful what you tie up to, plenty of real stories of “death by hammock” out there. I’m sure it will be something like “wife drives off in truck while hubby is snoozing in RTT” too!

not nearly as much as all the stuff I do to my truck lmao.

ya only key for the truck is with me when I'm in the hammock so it's not going anywhere and only tie to healthy tall trees.

If you do a lot of hammock camping, consider this type of setup.

    No trees necessary.

Edit: This is the pic I was looking for.

I first saw this on a Land Cruiser that had slots for the poles in the bumpers.

The amount of people in my old neighborhood that had 30 foot travel trailers was ridiculous. They sat there, never used. Annoying to have to look at them all the time. We moved to a neighborhood that doesn't allow them except to load or unload. So much better.

I guess the point is, whether it's a RTT or a camper, motorhome or a travel trailer, status symbol or not, people buy them and rarely use them. I'd rather have someone with a RTT not plugging up the street than anything else.

This x 1000. Could not have said it better myself. The only thing stupider than people bitching about what makes other people happy is the fact that I’m sitting here reading their stupid drivel... I gotta get a life...

I don't see it as one. Once you get a routine down. packs up fast..you do have to plan different than tenting or hanging, but I've never had a problem with it.

So like a lifted Tacoma, wrangler, etc?

Just as broad generalizations about people only mall crawling their tacos, annoy you. (if they don't than maybe you should reflect a bit on your habits)

I am sure my RTT saw more camping and off-roading in the six seasons we were using it than your gear ;-).

    edited to prevent trolling.

Have been wondering the same thing for soooooo long. Lived outdoors for almost 2 years straight and prefer the versatility or being able to setup camp somewhere beyond the roof of my truck. Not knocking the setups, they're actually pretty badass, but glad I'm not the only one that was thoroughly confused...

What has always confused me about the naysayers, is they seem to think that I am somehow confined to an arms reach of my truck. It's as though I sold off all my backpacking gear I order to buy a tent for my truck. Or I am somehow now incapable of sleeping in a ground tent or my hammock.

    I just don't get it.

Would like to see pics of the other non-RTT rigs... I imagine they are “personalized” a bit, too.

Did you read my post? You quoted me, but your comment didn't have anything to do with my post.

Interesting idea. Maybe once I get a front bumper I can find a way to rig something up

But for now where I am there is no shortage of trees.
