I say if you like black, use black. If you like chrome, use chrome. Personally I think they both look good if done right, I would use black if I were always offroad, but I'm not into that so I like chrome. I think it goes well with dark colors better than black. I say do what you like; on here someone will flame you regardless of what it is.:D

Got up on a Sunday morning and decided to have a garage sale. The buyers will use it.

But seriously the black against SWB bothered me. Now, against a white truck would look awesome.

ive always loved the way black looks when clean. both my taco's were black, my jeep was black, and my harley is black. no other color looks as great as black when wash, waxed and taken care of... imo :)

chrome used to make me think of rappers but now what they do is lift their cars like 2 feet and put over 30" rims on, which are usually painted the same color as the vehicle.

Chrome now makes me think redneck, every time i drive down the street I see a jacked up redneck truck with chrome rims/mirror covers/door handles/wheel wells etc

OZ, you missed the garage sell. I listed everything here on a Sunday morning and it was all gone within hours.

LOL. I prefer the term - Old School". Hey, I am not going to pretend I am young and cool, that would be just sad. In 20 - 25 years from now, you will see what I mean. The style you grow up stays with you.

In the 70's, black wheels was the way a poor guy pretended he was customizing his truck. In the seventies - black wheels say, I want a nice truck but I cannot afford wheels.

On the first point, 'young and cool' seem to be more often a contradiction of terms these days.

On the second point, it still does in most cases. I see the occasional exception, but those are few and far between.

I think Black Chrome or Machined is more of the next generaztion than the new trend. It is way easier maitenance and looks just as nice.

I totally agree with you, and the same still applies if you are using basic black steel rims, but were talking a new age of black alloy custom rims

Nothing looks as good as a freshly washed, waxed, and shiny black truck.

Generation is a great way to sum this up. I am trying to recall the trends(better to say generation) I have seen in my lifetime.

I watched the guys from the 50's, paint their steel wheels black or red. Some put on beauty rings and hub caps.

In the 60's chromed steel and cast/polished magnesium and aluminum. Good chrome is easy to maintain with Windex and an SOS pads. Polished (unsealed) aluminum is a bitch to maintain. I remember the introduction of Mothers was like it was from heaven.

In the 70's, the 4x4s had white spoke or chrome spoke wheels, 15x10s were the size too.

In the 80's I loved the 15x10 Alcoa, highly polished aluminum.

Next, they painted the centers of the wheels (black, gold, silver, etc. and left the chrome or polished rim edges.

Then, they painted the center to match the vehicle.

Then, they painted the whole wheels to match the vehicle.

Now today, the generation prefers to paint the whole wheel satin black.

As I read the numerous threads on this forum, I can see people saying that they are looking for something new. If machined wheels come, next they will start polishing them again.

And here we go full circle again.
