I alway set up my financing before buying... try to never go thru the dealer... they will f**k you if you don't know what you are doing...

Or go thru the dealer then immediately refinance with a bank/credit union of your choice...

btw, I pay $439 a month only because I've had this $4K rollover from a stupid car I financed thru the dealer when I was a kid... f**king Dodge

I would not want to go any higher than my $426 payment. I wish that my "required" payment was down in the $350 range and then I'd pay more when I want to, like I do now.

Well, I am leaning towards bumping the purchase of the truck back a few more months. I will have my last credit card paid off in March as well as a 0% interest thing on my tires also in March. I also have a 0% interest Best Buy card that I am paying a small amount on, but the rest of my pay check is going towards the credit card / tires, then my current car loan. I figure my current car loan will be paid off in July. I can then pay off my student loan and best buy card the following month.

I've paid off a butt load of debt in the last 16 months. My biggest thing is getting an additional payment once I get the truck. I will sell the car before I buy the truck (unless the car is paid off before it sells) and will use the proceeds to likely pay off a HELOC. The only thing then will be a mortgage, cell phone, utilities and insurance.

I make good money, but will get a raise in September (I work in government and it is an automatic raise). I can afford a $500 payment, but I am so used to seeing debt get paid off that I am not as excited to add to it, but we will see. Plus I am single and have no kids.

I will be at the high end of the tacoma world with the truck I will get. I will get a white double cab long bed with the sport package. I am only going to buy new. My last three cars were bought used and I have had well beyond my share of nightmares when it comes to used cars. Bottom line is I dont trust used car dealers or used cars for that matter. Peace of mind is worth the larger purchase price of a new over used...to me. I am not going to buy a truck that has been raped by someone else. I used to sell Toyotas and have a good relationship with my former manager and know what kind of deal I will get into with a new truck.

Are you sure about your automatic raise? I work in the government too (FDIC) - thankfully we have a bargaining agreement that seperates us from the Obama pay freeze.

    Yes.
My Tacoma costs more than our house payment per month...by $1. Oh well, the Taco will be paid off much sooner!

If I had to take out a loan for a vehicle I'd make sure I had enough down to not have a payment more than 300-350. I was lucky to be able to pay cash for my Taco though. I'm hoping to be able to save enough to pay cash for my next truck, or at least pay the majority of it.

at this point the Obama pay freeze only impacts the cost of living adjustment, not promotions (meaning the pay scale will stay the same). Advancements and step increases arent blocked. I will be going from a GL(similar to GS) 11 to a 12 which is automatic unless I do something to screw up. So far so good.
