what is the little green Aux plug used for?

Anyone? I have this green little outlet under the AC controls on my truck.
what is it used for ? No question is stupid!

 

It's to plug in an iPod, basically. Get yourself an aux cable...hit button on stereo that says Aux

 

What he said. iPod or any MP3 player, no need for cd's.

 

also works to plug into the headphone jack on my sons 3DS...surround sound video games!

That's true. Sometimes if I'm watching a YouTube clip ill plug it in so it plays on the speakers.

Anyone else seem to have lower volume through Aux? I have to max the volume on both the HU and the phine when I've got my phone plugged in.

 

Yea it's definitely lower volume, but, I've learned to put the iPod/phone volume one or two clicks down from max and the sound quality is better

 

Yeah, there's times I have to max the truck radio to just be able to hear it (iPhone already maxed). Then of course the speakers crackle when it hits certain points.

True story time. I had pocketed the iPod and unplugged the cable I always kept in the AUX port and later while cycling through the radio settings with the steering wheel controls I noticed that the AUX mode didn't appear. Pondered what I had done to screw it up for almost five minutes screwing with steering wheel and dashboard controls before a thought flashed before me. "Hey dummy, maybe plug the cable back in."

There, I fixed it. <sigh>

 

When I owned my 2011 I found that using the AUX it was really low sounding volume. With my 2013 plugged in through the USB through the touchscreen, I found out it was louder than my 2011.
