my 2004 has an asphalt type particle board glued all over the metal flooring (under the carpet).
It has a rather unleasant smell, and I would like to remove it.

What is this material, and what function does it serve? Is there any reaon I should not remove it - scrape it off?

    thanks

Sounds like the previous owner put down sound deadening material.

That's what I'm thinking. Either that or ghetto-rhino liner to "waterproof" the interior
