If you don't need room, get a used jeep rubicon. I said used so you don't feel as bad when you "bash" it around on the trail.

    I didn't see this earlier...duh...

Umm...err.... I don't have any experience with the newer Rubicons. They're hub size changed to 5 on 5.5 which is better than the older Rubicons/TJ's which had 5 on 4.5. The major issue with the older Rubicons were the outter knuckles/hubs were the same as the D30 (weakness).

If you want a seriously capable vehicle on the trails, I'd never buy a stock Rubicon or other 'off the shelf' manufacturer designed offroad rig. I'd buy a cheap standard vehicle with a strong frame, strong engine and build the vehicle the way you want to. Just imagine..... If you're THAT serious... Dana 60's, ARB's, Atlas transfer case, all sorts of skid plating & rollcages. SAS on a tacoma with D44 in the front...is also pretty damn strong offroad rig!

If you're a casual offroader....then surely, you could buy *say for instance* a Jeep Rubicon to get you where you wanna go with the back-up lockers to help you when you need it. But then again, any 4WD vehicle can be made casually capable to offroad. It all depends on how far you wanna go with it.
