social media is mostly dumpster fires, but every once in a while there is a creator that isn't too bad. I can't tell you why I watch this guy, but because of him I know more about appliances than would be considered normal in most circles. He's in Canada and up there Speed Queen is called Huebsch. He's also a fan of Bosch dishwashers. When my current washer dies a Speed Queen will replace it.

I had 2 Maytags and will never purchase another. The filter screen was made of plastic mesh "welded" to a plastic mount. The weld creates a weak spot in the mesh and it cracked after 9 months of use. I fought with it for a while, replaced the filter twice, bought a new Maytag (because I'm an idiot) and finally replaced it with a Bosch.

Reviews I’ve read say the Bosch doesn’t dry well. Any issues with that?

We bought a Bosch dishwasher about 6 months ago and haven't had an issue with drying. If you do a normal wash, then open it up right after it's done, you may have some dishes that aren't completely dry but we haven't really seen that. Plastic bins, as with our previous DW, have water on the inside no matter what cycle we use. BTW - we use the regular cycle and the Extra Dry feature when we go to bed. When we open it up in the AM, clean and dry (except for some plastic bins). We are very happy with it in all aspects - cleans, dries well, quiet. Much better than the Kenmore Elite it replaced.

Bosch doesn't have a heater like some dishwashers which has its pluses and minuses. The plus is you can put plasticware anyplace you want and it won't melt. The minus is drying takes longer and you have to use a rise aide like JetDry. It's not a problem in our house because I start the dishwasher when I go to bed and everything is dry in the morning. If for some reason dishes need to be washed during the day, opening the door when the machine is finished and the dishes are still hot speeds things along too. The thing that makes the Bosch a winner in our house is how clean the dishes are and how quiet it is when running.

Have had excellent service from old Maytag stuff..
Have 34 year old Maytag washer and dryer.
Just replaced felt, rollers and belt on dryer. Don't plan on replacing them (units). Older than my two kids..My Mom bought them for me as housewarming gift for first house. Moved them with us to each new place.

Unfortunately none of the new stuff will last even half as long.

If I had to do it again I'd look for some old Maytag or Speed Queen equipment and refurbish it. Parts are still available to my surprise.

    Google is your friend here.

Good luck whichever route you travel.

I have a friend that works with general appliances and the biggest thing has always been don't buy Samsung or anything "smart". The electronics become the focus for engineers and they lose sight of the important part: the mechanical (part of why I own a Tacoma haha).

Samsung makes amazing displays; not dryers. I 100% agree that they do not make them like they used to. They are made to break at a certain time to make you go back to the store = planned obsolescence (look it up, unfortunately it's real).

Your local appliance store is a great idea because the good ones will help you fix your current machine instead of pushing a new one on you. I've saved a bunch of money because of this!

    Hope you find something decent.

I'd try to find the cheapest appliances that I didn't think was junk and buy those. I wouldn't care if they matched or are from the same manufacturer. Bonus points for the lightest and easiest to move.

    I like Maytag.

I don't think I'll ever buy a new washer again. They all are so simple to repair, I see no point in dropping $800 for a washer when I can buy a used one all day long for <$100. If it fails, I'll fix it for $50.

Yea, I thought having to JetDry was a scam - JetDry was paying Bosch to say you had to use it. So I didn't. Turns out, you really do need to use it! You can adjust the amount used, on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most. The factory setting is 4. I changed it to 2 and it works just as well. At level 4 is was drinking that JetDry like a fish does water.

I've heard Bosch DW's don't have a food waste disposal/grinder, so you need to pre wash everything really good.

Miele has been good for my wife and I. We got them for free but... but had to pick them up which was definitely work worth a few hundred bucks. Ended up using my Bambeds boards as a lever/slide to get the monsters loaded into the bed.
I do prefer the old style dial but it's hard to beat free.

What silly thing did you do today because of what you read on the internet, I'll start - - I checked out my dishwasher for a factory setting for JetDry dispensing. Seems my 800 model Bosch doesn't have a setting. But, it does have a warning light for when it gets low.

You've heard partially correct, they don't have a food grinder. But, pre-washing kind of defeats the whole point of a dishwasher. I do scrape the big bits off into the trash, but there is zero pre-washing or rinsing. If I happen to miss a piece or two it's no big deal as it gets caught in the filter. Unlike the maytag it replaced, cleaning the filter is super easy. I actually bought another filter and swap them with every wash. The dirty one goes through the wash cycle with the other dishes.

Honestly the Bosch is the best cleaning dishwasher I've ever owned. My wife has ZERO tolerance for even the slightest bit of leftover food or smell after washing. If she spots so much as a spec or sniffs the faintest wiff, the whole thing get run through the another wash cycle. Since it's my job to do the dishes, and I'm lazy, you can have my Bosch over my cold dead body. And, watch out for my wife, because the Bosch is the only dishwasher we've ever had that she actually likes.

People say go for LG. The ones I'm seeing have decent reviews but they all come with "smart home" technology and I'm totally not interested in that crap, and I'd rather not pay for it. All the gripes I had about my Samsung, I'm seeing on the reviews in all the other brands. There are like fourteen preset washes and I've only had use for TWO of them, and I need to turn down the water temp, turn up the water level, and dial up the spin every time. There's no agitator and the clothes end up wadded up to the walls of the washer. The dryer never really worked all that great even before it broke down, and same thing with having fourteen cycles and only one usable one.

When I was still home, my parents replaced the 1996 original KitchenAid dishwasher after it broke down and soaked the kitchen floor. It was repairable, but whatever got a new KitchenAid machine. It takes three hours to go through a cycle versus one hour with the old one, and it's loud as shit.

The valve itself kiboshes your shower pressure now? That's just dirty. I have a low flow toilet and I dream of the day I replace it with a real one and blow it up with tannerite..

Roper... no frills. Just wash and dry. Zero issues for 20 years. That set replaced a 25 year old set of Kenmores.

Damn, I just commented yesterday to find out last night my push start button crapped out on my Kenmore dryer. Timing, right?

Took it apart last night, got the part number and have a new switch on the way. $30 switch is better than a new dryer.
