I have a samsung gas dryer. :anonymous:

I bought it as a scratch/dent at the best buy outlet about 6 years ago. Last year the belt and one roller started squealing. 30 dollar kit with overnight shipping and I was back up and running. I have to say it was one of the easiest appliances I've disassembled and repaired.

Look for vintage 70’s and 80’s machines. Indestructible.

Bought a mid-range LG set, love both the washer and dryer. Super quiet and we have to run them in a closet that can't close due to space restrictions. They make so little noise that no one in the bedrooms nearby is bothered in their sleep.

My wife and I bought a Maytag washer and dryer with some of our wedding gift money. That was in 1985.

    We still have them.

Note that they are basically no-frills models without a lot of bells and whistles. A simpler design decreases the likelihood of problems.

I like that mindset. I get scared when a fridge has a screen on it with all that fancy stuff waiting to break. My friends new fridge has the ability to make spherical ice cubes which is really cool! But my practical side says id never use it and how much did that add to the total price

Tell me about it. Last year my wife and I did a kitchen makeover. My wife insisted on top-of-the-line appliances. The refrigerator alone cost $3000 and has everything but wifi.

Extremely disappointed in Samsung. 7 years for a $2700 fridge. Ice maker worked reliably for 2 years and 1 of 2 compressors lasted 7 years. Piece of crap.

I have an old Kenmore front loader from 2003. Drum bearing replaced/rebuilt once 5 years ago. If you can find click and clunk controls you're good.

FWIW, on the ship we went through Amaya, Whirlpool, Samsung and Maytag before switching everything over to Speed Queen. The machines get the snot beat out of them between the motion of the ship and idiot crew members but they still keep on ticking and do a good job at getting work clothes clean. We did have someone break a door off of one of the dryers and it was easy to get replacement parts to get it back up and running.

At home we have a Samsung washer/dryer. My wife doesn't like them but she can't or won't tell me why she doesn't like them. I think they do a good job and we haven't had any issues other than early on when I was doing a lot of varnishing in the garage while we were drying clothes. Turns out that oil based varnishes put an odor into the air that makes the clothes smell like diesel exhaust in the dryer. Once we figured out what was going on it was a simple matter of not varnishing and using the dryer at the same time.

I have an old Hotpoint electric dryer. Makes a great table for holding the washing liquid. Haven't used it in decades. Laundry gets hung outside or in the wood heated basement.

Kenmore front loader washer...19 years old, one rebuild due to bearing failure. Old fashioned click and clunk controls.
