I saw a post with a picture of a Tacoma with one wheel perched on a curb stop at the mall, hilarious sense of humor there!

Never upset. He loved those things and considered it part of the ownership. Pleasure/pain relationship. He just grew up and wanted something reliable. No rust on his Rav4. No rust on my first gen Tundra. No rust on my Tacoma.

    Cheers

When me and the wife first married we only had a motorcycle ( Honda FT 500 Ascot )
So after about 6 months we saved up enough to buy a car. I found a 74 Pinto for $900
that seemed like it would do ok. Had the 2.3 4 cylinder. 4 speed. Burnt orange with
tan interior. It ran ok but some reason it would leave a little puddle of water on the ground
when parked. We never knew where it was coming from. Coming home from work in it
about a week later I was stopped at the T light and saw whisps of steam coming out
from around the hood. So I pulled over and popped the hood, Water was leaking onto the
exhaust manifold . I took the air cleaner off and a stream of water was shooting out the intake
manifold the size of a pencil. This model had a water jacket running to the choke
on the carb. The manifold had rusted through all around where the carb attached.
I took it home and got some JB weld and a big screw and sealed it up and let it sit for
a week. Later that week I put a for sale sign on it in front of the apartment. $1200
sold it 3 days later. buyer not aware of the issue under the air cleaner.
He loved how smooth the transmission shifted ( yes it's smooth isn't it Wink Wink ) :spending:

I have to admit it was the first time I sold a vehicle with undisclosed issues.
However I have been sold plenty of vehicles with undisclosed issues.
So who's foolin who here ?

really that bad? that 5.5l has a great reputation as far as I know

I have many many miles of seat time in both c55 and slk55 without any issues

i wouldn't exactly call it Japanese reliability, but all considering I believe them to easily be 100k+ mile cars of relatively trouble free

My dad had a friend who used to buy cars at auctions, fixed and sold them again in the late 90's

One time he bought a Mercedes 190E, and after he serviced it it smoked a lot, the rings were done

He bought a whole box of Wynn's Engine Treatment, the stuff you add to a worn engine, drained the oil and filled the engine only with Wynn's

The car ran beautifully, and with the leaded gas we had at the time, burned the tailpipe a nice grey like an engine running well should

The poor guy who bought it was in for a nasty surprise after the first oil change

He had other tricks too like mashed bananas in noisy diffs and using a syringe to fill the boot with grease to silence a clack-clacking VW CV joint

Not many cars from the 80's with fender flares, front mount intercooler, and 9 inch wide tires. They're still one of my favorite cars.

Nah. That title belongs to Mistu. Seriously, they're fun but a turd rolling down hill will make it farther before breaking up.
