The power seat issue reminds me of a cousin’s car, it had a strange name like sterling or something. The passenger power seat was possessed, driving down the road it went forward and reclined forward pinning my face against the windshield.

Its odd that GM took the Catera that Cadillac was dropping from it's line up and Pontiac
took it for the revamped GTO which were fitted with LS power trains. I do not know
how many gremlins were in the GTO's but for the most part they seem to be void from
    this thread.

1992 VW Corrado VR6 SLC...absolutely loved that car but sure was a money pit - water pumps gave out the most. Owned it since new, sold it in 2007. Never looked at another VW since.

I've always been told not to buy a VW outside of it's warranty period. That being said, I did have an 89 GLi, Wolfsburg edition that was an amazingly fun car.

Holy shnikes. This just reminded me of my own most-unreliable. '81 Dodge Omni. The ultimate high school whip. It was such a piece. That car would idle in gear at about 30 miles an hour, but it wouldn't go more than 50. One morning, my brother and I drove it to Sugarloaf to go skiing for the day, and when I went back to the lot to grab the car and pick him up at the lodge, the car was gone. Throughout the day, I had seen postings at the lift bases for someone who shared my father's name to call a number, and in retrospect, I realized that was because the Omni was registered in his name, but at the time I simply dismissed it as coincidence.

So with the Omni missing in the lot, I thought I'd lost my mind and forgotten where it was parked (I even climbed trees to survey), or someone had stolen an 81' Omni, which made zero sense. Turns out, the remains were down the hill at an auto shop. She'd fully blown up while we were on the mountain that day.

Ford owns 33.3% of Mazda North America. Basically it was a deal made to sell Mazda a bunch of the FS series 2.0L 4 cylinders and the Ranger platform. They really dont share much at all now.

The cruise control switch on the master cylinder leaked and caught fire.

"Since 1999, the Ford Motor Company has recalled over 14 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars, SUVs and pickup trucks due to faulty cruise control switches, which can corrode overtime and catch fire."

I fixed many a faulty cruise control switch and have repaired a handful of post-fire vehicles. They used the same setup on alot of RV's.

I still want a Phaeton. Random little unassuming sedan that will do almost 200mph for some ungodly reason.

Wish I would of know that, but I tell you guys I hated that truck pretty much the whole time I had it. It was a good deal when I got it and was great for a few months and then the problems started. When the fire happened the insurance money I got was more then what I paid for it. It was in between Tacoma truck I call it lol

2003 Range Rover, and it’s not even close.

I’ve owned 32 cars in my life. Although all of my Europeans cars (Mercedes and BMW’s) were somewhat of money pits, the Range Rover takes the cake. That thing was ALWAYS having new problems. I’d buy a Merc or BMW again but never a Land Rover.

Long ago (in that timeframe) they weren't terrible, at least seemed to be better than the early 80s or present times

There was a time when VW made some great long living vehicles that were dirt simple
to work on, fun to drive and cheap to own. Somewhere around the later 70's that
shifted to vehicles made to just live for a certain number of years and then fall apart.
The 80's and 90's were very bad years for VW. when the New Beetle came out again
it was plagued with transmission issues. The late model GTI's were decent.
But that's about it . Sad for sure but true they make disposable vehicles now.

A 1971 Vauxhall "Fire" nza, I don't believe they sold it in the US, but it was available in Canada. My father got a "real deal" on it, lol! Caught fire on me twice, I should have just let it burn to the ground the first time it caught fire. We could not keep it running for more than 2 weeks at a time, timing belt, water pump, brakes, heater core, numerous electrical issues. You could not keep it timed and it would start to backfire and catch fire. Rings went out on it at about 20k, and that was it fo me. Owned it for almost a year and drove it less than 5,000 miles. I have owned a number of other British cars that were not the most reliable, but nothing like the Firenza.

I've owned some beaters/turds that I knew were bad going in, so they don't count. The 2 biggest turds that were supposed to be "good" vehicles were the '04 Grand Cherokee Laredo and the '05 Outback that recently went away to get the Taco. I actually liked the grand cherokee ( AKA "soccer mom jeep") but my goodness, could chyrsler find any cheaper/crappier suppliers if the tried?? Anything that used a bearing needed replacing before 100K, multiple oil leaks from anything that used a seal, crappy brake calipers that froze/warped rotors even after the recall campaign that I had to fight with the stealership to get them to perform the recall. Honestly, besides the vehicle being a POS, the service dept made it an even more miserable vehicle to own
