Very nice OZ. What size tires? Waiting on my OME set up to arrive in a few weeks. I'm on the rubbers with anything more than a few groceries.

You get into an accident and you get sued because you are over capacity. What will be your defense? If someone was killed and it was determined that your being overloaded was a contributing factor what then?

Every single thread regarding towing or load carrying on TW has someone saying sure you can do it regardless of what Toyota recommends. Anytime you ignore manufacturers recommendations you are taking 100% of the liability into your own hands.

That's my experience also. My springs are basically shot right now and I'm replacing my 2-leaf pack with a 3-leaf pack from a 3rd gen. This was with 1,120 lbs of water-softener rock salt in the back. You'll notice that is slightly over the actual payload if you count me as a passenger (250 lbs). As I removed bags I waited to see when it got off the bump stops and it was only at 800 lbs in the bed, with me obviously outside the truck, that it came off the bump stops every so slightly. You can see in the second picture with the full weight in the bed still that I'm both on the bump stop and fully spread over the overload leaf.

The load handling capacity of these trucks is a joke with certain leaf packs. I believe newer 3rd gens have the same TSB setup the 2nd gens had, and the 2-leaf packs on the TRD OR is just not meant to handle any load. I get significant squat now while carrying a heavy cooler, couple cases of water and the tongue weight of an unloaded trailer.

My advice is to do it, even though the truck isn't really up to it, and then replace your leaf pack with something more substantial like a Wheeler's HD leaf pack, OME Dakar, or another stock pack with a 3-leaf AAL (which I'm going to do, just because I don't want to go too high or make it feel quite as rough as an HD truck)

Yeah I'm not happy with the stock performance of this truck in terms of hauling. Its basically a cross-over with an outside bed lol my leaf packs are already toast after 1200 load last year. Drove that a whole mile down the road. My mistake was leaving the load in the bed all night. But forgive me, spent my whole driving life with an F-250.
If I had the money I'd be upgrading to a full OME suspension with Dakars. But need to wait on that for now.
This will be my first time towing with this thing, lets see how it does.

Here is a yard of beach sand and it was draging ass all the way ..... But I took it slow and no adverse effects. A yard of top soil does the same. 20170707_131639.jpg

Got the trailer and hauled a few other things. I think total trailer weight was 3800lbs. Not bad at all. Gas mileage was 14.3. Not horrific. Trailer handled very well compared to what I expected.

Last night I was driving home from work with a buddy. Halfway through the trip we turned the stereo off. We both looked at each other and were like "wtf is that chirping?". Once we got off the highway I rolled the windows down. It's the god damn leaf springs. :bananadead:

At least I always listen to music while I drive to drown it out.

New suspension is going in at 100k miles.
