That was my thinking too, you probably wont be able to tune it if 8 HP was the difference from having an issue.

Having to tune down 8hp is ridiculous. Never heard of such a thing.
Too much jammed down a 4.

Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infiniti, Ford, GM and Tesla were all clients of mine. I used to design auto shows for 20+ years and we would take the complex engineering stories and make them digestible to the general public.
Trust me when I say, there are often ridiculous dynamics that find their way into many facets of a project. Business, design, marketing and cultural forces often shape critical engineering decisions.

My beef is really that Tacoma is important enough to get its own powertrain. But we see that in modern times, many brands use passenger car blocks/heads adapted to trucks. It's probably too expensive to invest in a dedicated traditional truck powerplant with widespread electrification just around the corner. The current V6 feels a bit like a car motor in a truck. I really miss truck motors. Where have they gone? You can make more money by cross-usage among products. Great (sarcastically).

The new turbo 4 "is proven and has been around for a while"...really? But in what truck?

I don’t think the 8hp was the specific goal. That’s more likely a result of the driveability and NVH targets getting met

There is another thread about thrust bearing issues with a 3rd gen manual transmission. We know our current manuals have clutch accumulators to cushion things a bit. Then this new information about crank hammering with the 2024 manuals. It wouldn't be a stretch to consider that these are the things you may need to do to keep a car engine alive in a truck.

Maybe the 8hp drop was the alternative

2024 Tacoma production info pdf that was released a few days ago. MT gets higher torque curve and lower top end.

I want to sue Toyota for false advertising, clearly it's not a 2.4L it is a 2.393L motor! Stupid lawnmowers.

Closer that the Tundy that gets called a 3.5 sometimes. At least this one does work mathematically...

I won't even begin to tell you about the legendary 5.0 from Ford...

5.0 from Ford and the 5.0 from Chevy, which one was closer to the correct size? :D

I remember the smack talking happening between both Mustang and Camaro owners over this.

Ford just didn't want there to be confusion with their truly legendary engine - the 4.9 liter straight 6

Tundra is looking better and better, even the detuned SR which has 1885# payload and 8300# towing in the DC6.5, base price of $43K for the 4WD.

I believe this MT is paired to a Diesel in the Hilux. Does anyone which engine and how much torque?

When repalcement time comes, I will have to look at a 1/2 ton. I really prefer the size of a midsize truck, but the overall value of it is so slim nowadays, it's foolish to not consider one. I hate parking a full size since I live in a major metro area, but money talks I guess.

Also, it's not my parking that stresses me, it is everyone else who parks and can't figure out what the lines are for.

You need to go test drive a Tundy, there are niiiiice. It really isn’t that much bigger, actually the bed felt kind of small to me. Only thing I don’t like is the grill, but I spend more time driving than I do looking at it.

You get that anywhere with people, fairly open here, even driving down the interstate have fears of people wrecking into me.

Think I see more 3/4-1 tonners here than anything else. Feel like a dwarf in my Taco. Sitting at a light yesterday, two jacked up Super Duties in front of me, a jacked up GMC 3500 beside me, and two more behind me. They daily those things here. All of them shiny without a spec of dirt on them.

Grille doesn't faze me. I don't like it in certain colors, but that's an easy fix IMO.

If you color code the redneck mustache chrome surround trim, it isn’t too bad.
