What is the unused wiring connector on the rear light wireing harness for? It's on the driver side above where the trailer light plug goes.

Did you buy new? If no, previous owner could had a bed cap with a third brake light.

Trucks with the tow package come with two different trailer connectors; the round 7 pin connector for trailers with brakes and hot lead, and the flat 4 pin connector for trailers with just lights. Are you looking at the 4 pin trailer connector?

I have the same problem/question as Taco 1961. Please look at photo in post #8 above. I have the unused connector on my 2018 access cab truck. I want to
add wiring for trailer lights and have purchased a kit from etrailer.
There are no connectors behind the tail light assemblies as the directions describe. The only breaks in the truck harness are underneath like in photo. Is the connector next to the black unused connector where I T in?
I have the Tekonsha 118685 kit.
    Thanks
    JM

Good idea, will try this morning. Also did anyone find out what the grey unused connector was for?

The connectors behind the tail light should be directly on the bulb sockets at the end of the harness. They might look like part of the socket if you don’t look close.

Thanks that's were I was going wrong. I expected the connectors to be further down the harness.
