Replaced the non-JBL head unit today to get all that new tech and there's a connector that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Does anyone know what this is? Seems to work without it.

Yep first owner. On the back of the factory unit there are 3 jacks of 24 pins each in a row and this connects in the one closest to the driver side.

It seems to be connector R50 that goes between the head unit, the telematics unit, and the navigation ECU. My guess is your head unit doesn't have factory navigation.

Thanks! You're right, the nav is done with Android auto so there's native nav. It would be cool if the in-dash nav part worked with the aftermarket unit android auto and I wonder if these wires would be the key for that. It would need to be something that a unit like maestro supported.

W/android auto you don't need the factory nav system. It's total garbage. Entering addresses is painful and map updates are via a very overpriced micro SD card.

Both use the GPS antenna but factory nav is a separate box in the dash and separate app on the head unit. Android auto uses the phone to handle everything and then pushes it to the dash screen.
